yes, but catholics think that stopping a pregnancy is the same as an abortion. Catholics do not believe in any type of birth control. I had to be put on the pill at the age of 15 as did my cousin because we have problems with our periods. The priest at church was quite beligerant with us. Which is why I am now a "nonpracticing" catholic. I like thinking for myself better anyway.

Pastor Billy says: I suggest all the people talking about the pill in positive terms see the movie "Children of Men" the movie is presented in a more politically acceptable way but the original book does not blame a disease for our inability to reproduce.
"used correctly, prevent disease and unwanted pregnancies"? What we have here is a warping of reality how can something be control when there is only one intention, death? and how can it prevent disease when the people using them correctly are still getting Aids?
One, there is no control with birth control as it is not 100% and there is very limited disease control because regardless of how it is being used correctly or incorrectly people are still dying.
To be human we must be open to life that is why the Church teaches birth control is wrong.
With regards to diseases the case has been made in Africa were Aids numbers are ever increasing the only response to the problem is abstinence outside of marriage and fidelity to your spouse in marriage. The only African nation with dropping numbers in Uganda which is of course following the Church model.
condoms do not prevent Aids that is a fallacy it does however increase your changes as use of these prophylactics encourages increased sexual activity, and the sin of infidelity.
Within the Christian community itself many persons do not accept or even want to realise usage of condoms can led us into the other sins I have already mentioned hence they are not good.
Finally what is an unwanted pregnancy? Think about it. There has been made in recent decades this terrible disconnect between our sexuality and birth.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.
If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?
People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).
Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.
In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.
With love in Christ.

The Catholic church believes that you should only have sex if you are married. Thus, if you are both virgins when you marry there is really no need to use a condom. Unless you are using it for birth control which the Catholic church forbids. Sex is to procreate, not for pleasure....according to the church.

Catholic church does not believe there should be any sex unless you are trying to conceive a child. Condoms would prevent conception.

Now you have entered into a complicated area of Catholic Mythology.
The Catholic Church believes it serves the greater good to not prevent pregnancies. On the sane token, Catholics believe disease is a good way to get rid of the riffraff. So, they do not like church money being spent on condoms.
With love in Christ; because Jesus Christ is the king of kings. His truths shall never be tramped upon by cynical Catholics.

I'm Catholic and that is the dumbest thing I ever heard. If I try to conceive and get aids in the process, what good is the belief...?

that Vatican is easing off on that a bit now, but basically it was because only married couples should be having sex and only when they want to conceive. They are kinda finally realising now though that that's not reality are being a bit more forgiving about it

Condom use promotes extra-marital sex and stops the transmission of life. Want to guarantee that you don't get an STD or get pregnant? It's simple: don't have sex. That's why sex is for married people only.
