My partner and I are headed for a romantic trip to Venice and Florence this April. As well as art and culture, we're intrepid gastronauts - so what are the local specialities we should be on the lookout for in Venice and Florence?

(Two we know already: Bellinis and carpaccio in Harry's Bar. Any more?)

Cheers

You have to, have to go to Castello di Verazzano.....

We went their on a tour and we had the best time, wine and food! They do different types of tours, so contact them to see what they can offer you in your time frame.

One comment about the pizza for the previous answerer.... Naples or Napoli is the only place in Italy known for good pizza. You can't beat it!

I don't know...but your avatar looks spookily like mine, so I thought I'd check out your ?.

If you're intrepid, you can eat the tripe sandwiches off the street...ugh.

I've seen some shows on the Food Network--check $40 A Day, Tasty Travels, some of those shows. I've seen Rachael Ray in Tuscany before, so she probably has some suggestions. Well, I don't know about Venice. But Florence is in Tuscany.

oh please, italy had the best pizza i ever ate. there is no need for food recommendations for visiting a place like florence. ask at your hotel they'll know best, or just stroll and take your chances, most places will have amazing food. In florence i remember the name of one great restaurant, restaurant madonna. near the rialto bridge. here's a link i found. http://www.ristoranteallamadonna.com/eng/locale.htm

everything will be good except for one thing. I have been to Italy at least 12 times and the worst thing they serve came as a surprise to me but it was.....pizza. In my opinion Italy has the god awfulest nasty pizza in the world. and no I am not a pizza hut fan either.
