5 year grafts patency rate is 82% .Patients'survival is 95%
15 year grafts patency rate is 63%.Patients' survival is about 65%

These figures are from CASS (Coronary artery surgery study) and The New England Journal of Medicine 1986 ;314::1-6.

But patients can survive less if the predisposing factors persist eg. sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy habits like smoking etc. etc.

I had my first triple by pass when I was 48, I had my second triple bypass at 62 followed by a aorta aneurysm following year at 63. I am now 72 and enjoying watching my grandchildren grow up !! Cheers Pete

A lot. It depends on any pre existing conditions. Like diabetes, congestive heart failure, renal failure. Most candidates fit the bill for the surgery and are more likely to live normal healthy lives for a long time after.That is, as long as they follow their doc's recommendations of lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, smoking, and no drinking. All these things play a major role in a positive outcome of the patient.

My uncle had this procedure done about 10 yrs ago and he is still kicking and says he feels great.That is the only person that I know who has had this done.
