A new heart murmur, in the setting of acute illness, like fever, chills, sweats, might indicate SBE Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis. That means an infection of the heart valve. The echocardiogram will look for evidence of this infection, or other dysfunction of the heart valves that could cause a murmur. Your Doctor may already have you on antibiotics, as a delay in treatment might mean an increase risk of valve damage. Ask if your test can be done sooner, as an answer to this diagnosis is important. Severe damage to heart valves may need surgical replacement.

A heart murmur is when the valves that send blood down to either the left or right ventricle don't close all the way which backwashes blood to the right and left atriums. The doctor may be right on that one since he listened to your heart and said that it is making a different sound. I hope you realize that you need surgery for a heart murmur. You may want to get a second opinion since the doctor didn't even look at your ears and wants to treat them for something that you don't feel any pain for. The echo scan on your heart is a good thing so you can see what is really going on in that heart of yours. I hope this information helps you. Good luck and you are in my prayers.

You should REALLY think about getting a second opinion. This guy sounds like a psycho. Even if you have heart problems, don't worry to much. I was born with a murmur and a week later it was gone. Pray for the best!

Murmur in young people are mostly benign, that means they do not do any harm.

The story can be dangerous, if you have been on abused drugs or alcohol.
