Because I heard that a lot of vegetarians are really skinny and gawky looking. Did any of you lose any weight? If so, was it a lot?

I lost weight after becoming vegetarian, but only about 5 pounds. Not all vegetarian foods are low-cal. You can have hardy meals like vegetarian chili over brown rice, or vegetable lasagna, for instance. Also remember to exercise, preferably with light hand weights. This will build muscle, which weighs more than fat.
Good luck!

If you know how to eat a healthy balanced vegetarian diet then you should stay at a nice healthy weight. Some people think that being a vegetarian just means that you remove meat or other animal products from your diet. But if all your left with is white bread, white pasta and potatoes and the occasional salad (this is a rough example) then you can plan on being unhealthy.

Many people also think that just because they eat animal products and meat that they are getting a well balanced healthy diet. It is important for everyone to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and to mostly eat them raw (in my opinion 5 a day is not enough, 6 or 7 a day is more like it), eat whole grain foods, eat legumes and nuts sometimes as well and eat animal products in moderation or not at all (meat, milk, eggs).

I have been a vegetarian for 7 years I did eat some dairy and eggs. But for about 8 weeks I have been a Vegan so I don't eat any animal products anymore. I am very energetic and active person, I love to keep in good shape and keep toned.

Some people think I am gonna die from lack of protein LOL. But truthfully I have never felt so good in my life (=

And plant foods contain alot more protein, amino acids, and life giving energy than we are led to believe. Do a little research on google you will find tons of great information.

Although vegetables and fruits are generally low in calories, eating them in correct amounts will not translate into a low calorie diet. You will only lose weight if your caloric intake is less than what you normally burn during the day. This applies to everyone regardless of food preference. Having said that, I suggest you choose your food carefully so that you still maintain the same amount of calories you did as when you were still eating meat. Rice, potatoes and other carbohydrate-rich foods are generally a rich source of calories, so you may want to include those foods in your vegetarian diet. Bottom line is, being a vegetarian does not mean starving yourself to death.

when i gave up eating meats i lost weight too and that was because meat is loaded with fats naturally. i also gave up all those hormones steroids and antibiotics they get shot up with to make them big and fat prematurely. I'm not too thin nor gawky ( maybe dorky heheh) . if you continue to eat a balanced diet as a vegetarian your ideal weight will come to you naturally. a vegetarian diet still consumes fatty foods. as in dairy products if you consume that. even oils you may use for cooking such as grape seed oil and or olive oil also true in the case of say avocados as well. don't worry you wont go hungry nor will you get unhealthily thin.

That's not true. I was thin before becoming vegetarian and have gained about 10 lbs. since giving up meat. I do eat fish and eggs however to get some protein. Pasta and potatoes will still add weight if you're not eating meat.

I became a vegetarian for 6 months and loss 22 pounds. My uncle is a vegetarian and is a pancake. But some vegetarians are big, but rarely, you would have to eat many varietys of food.

attempt to no longer eat too lots bread and pasta. those will make you fat. i do no longer think of you will see any differences in you're weight in case you replace all your foodstuff with the innovations you listed above. And watch your sugar intake. Sugar and carbohydrates rigidity up insulin which will advance fat storage. the kind of meat is a element besides. Processed and "feed lot" fed meat is low in food. changing from a sugar burner to a fat burner could provide you extra power.

If you don't quit dairy, you can eat cheese and that will help keep your weight up. Also, lots of fruits are high in calories, especially dried fruits like raisins.
