My mother will be going in for Mitral Valve Repair on Thursday (2/22/2007). They don't know for sure if a repair will fix the problem. If it won't they will be doing a replacement instead.

I am kinda freaking out and I don't want to be stuck in a motel room for and extended period.

Well, I'm sure your mother doesn't want to be stuck in a hospital room for an extended period, either.

How soon she comes home depends on her doctor and how quickly she heals. She should be able to leave the hospital within 3-5 days, if all goes well. How soon she leaves for home depends on the doctor. Of course, the doctor is the one who will make these decisions, based on what is best for your mother. Talk to him to get details.

Depends on how well she recovers. My hubby stood two months the first time then the second one he spent a few weeks. She needs to walk around. Start small and soon as she feels tired or out of breath, sit down and rest. She'll be fine. Just be patient & understanding. :)

Please see the web pages for more details on Mitral valve repair and Mitral valve replacement. The hospital stay period will depend upon the type of operation the doctors will perform on her heart. Please pray for your mother for speedy recovery after successful heart operation.
