Offering him gum helps in the short run, but if you're just wanting to tell him that he has very bad breath... it would depend on how close you are to that person, which you didn't reveal. If it's your brother, you can grab your throat and faint. Your boss... not so good. If it's a lady, tread softly. A teenage girl -- forget it!

My daughter had this halitosis problem. What works, works well. But it's intially expensive. Tell him to get a SoniCare toothbrush, used twice/thrice a day; and a HydroFloss mouth irrigator (and order a sulcus tip) used once a day. That keeps halitosis away for hours--actually seems to cure it. I don't know about the "electromagnetic claims" but boy it takes care of the worst breath for much longer than gum. Minty halitosis is still halitosis. Prior to this, a visit to the dentist for cleaning is a good idea, so suggest that. It will make sure the origin of bad breath isn't gum disease or a needed root canal, which all the brushing in the world won't cure.

Overdoing mouthwash will kill good bacteria along with the bad, which you don't want to do. Use of a tongue scraper is better. Someone mentioned parsely. Works great for breath and body odor, as does chlorophyll water.

You put a question like this up on Yahoo!Answers and when they are nearby you go "Oh - look! Someone has put a question up about Halitosis!"

o Brushing and flossing teeth regularly
o Mouthwash
o Mild peroxide mouthwash/gargle (hydrogen peroxide 1.5%)
o Chewing sugarless gum
o Yoghurt
o Green tea
o Cinnamon or peppermint

Well, you can tactfully offer them gum or breathmints when you see them. Eventually, if they don't get the hint, you can broach the topic in a gentle way. For example, "I hope I don't hurt your feelings by saying this, but I would want a true friend to tell me something like this. I don't think you realize it, but I find your breath gets a little overwhelming, which is why I often offer you the breathmints. I think others may be feeling the same way, so as your friend I wanted to give you a heads up."

Very discretely place a bottle of Listerine on their desk or in their mailbox with information on halitosis...I've had this same experience with a co-worker and body odor...after leaving deodorant and body wash on their desk with information on BO, they didn't smell any more...check out link!
