Maam, with all due respect, you are obviously looking for answers that will put your mind at ease, and it isn't going to happen in this forum. If you are that worried about your child, please take him to the ER and have him checked by a physician. As you can see, many of the over-the-counter medications are not intended for use in children under 2 years of age. You could do more harm than good by treating him yourself. Get off your computer, bundle him up, and take him to the ER. You will both be better off. Good Luck

Did your doctor prescribe it for the bronchitis? It is usually not given to children under the age of two and I believe you said your child is one. It is an expectorant and so it's going to make him cough more. If he is having that much trouble breathing PHONE your doctor, there should be a doctor on call. Tell them he needs some relief and is wheezing so they can tell you what they feel he should have. There is a liquid mucinex but it is also NOT recommended for children under 2. And there are times when an expectorant is not the way you want to go.

Usually they prescribe or recommend children's triamenic, etc. But again since he is under 2 it's best to get this straight from your doctor.

A humidifier can be used without consulting a doctor. If he's having a lot of trouble breathing I would take him in to see if they would give him a breathing treatment with a nebulizer. But at the very least call your doctor.

A couple of people said you had a one-year old but I don't see where you said that. In any case, I think very warm water with a half a squeezed lemon (not the bottled stuff) and a tablespoon of honey (as long as he's over a year old) dissolved and sipped through a sippy cup works wonders loosening phlegm, and gently expectorates it. For cryin' in a bucket, don't waste your time and money in the ER. Unless he's coughing so hard he can't breathe, obviously. (Even then, the regular doc is much cheaper!).

Good luck to ya.
