I saw some clay cooking vessels at the Asian store, but they were painted (and fired) on the inside. I think that defeats the purpose.
Any ideas?

just set the broiler to max (or 500 deg F), that works. you can
even use your grill pan on the stove or use an outdoor bbq or grill -- I have tried them all & it works!

if you marinate the chicken well, there is no problem.

The nearest would be to follow the marinating part of the recipe correctly,so you get the original flavour of a tandoori dish, bake in the oven till it is well cooked, lastly finish under a hot grill to get the partially charred effect of a tandoori dish,BBQ meat should also be near enough.

Probably not, but you might want to look at your recipe's to see if they can be adapted. For example, for tandorie chicken, take skinless, boneless chicken and marinate overnight in yogurt, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and salt and pepper, then bake at 400 degrees until cooked thru.

Just use your own oven and set it to about 500F. It will cook very hot and quickly, which is what you need.
