he should start feeling the benefits any time now. if he's still not seeing an improvement by monday, or if he takes a turn for the worse, either go to A & E, or get him a doctors appointment for that day. try to keep him warm, it would also help him if he breathed steam - either having a long hot shower, or getting him to put his head over a bowl of recently boiled water and then putting a towel over his head & the bowl so that the steam gets inhaled as he breathes. it helps clear the mucus out of your lungs. he can also try drinking lots of hot drinks, which helps to fight the infection, and vitamin c helps too, so either tablets or oranges / kiwi fuit would help. hope he feels better soon.

Is he still running a fever? If so and he is getting worse I would go back in, you begin to feel better within 48 hours but by 72 hours he should no longer run a fever. Could be the infection he has is resistant to the antibiotics he was prescribed. If he was seen by his regular doctor I would call his office for the after hours number or service and have them have the on call doctor return your call. He/she can tell you if you what he recommends to do. If your husband is really miserable I wouldn't wait to call.

The antibiotics should have started to improve his infection by now. It is possible they'd take longer but chest infections of a serious nature need treating quickly.
I would call the locum or on call doctor and make sure he's seen tonight.

About 90% of all respiratory infections are viral and will not respond to ANY antibiotic. Despite this about 85% of chesty episodes are prescribed antibiotics. Interesting mismatch of statistics!
It is however absolutely impossible to make a diagnosis or assessment of your husband without a contact and examination, so if you are concerned about his condition you MUST seek a further medical contact.

Im not sure but perhaps you should try other things. My son and husband both had bronchitits, my husband caught it first and took antibiotics, my 4 year old did not, but my 4 year old got over it faster. Try HOT fluids like tea and soup and avoid dairy products. Airborne works well also to help your body fight off infections and use vicks vapor rub.

It often takes a few weeks for the cough to clear up after bronchitis. If he is having trouble sleeping and OTC cough medicine isn't helping, he should go to the doctor for some prescription cough medicine. Make sure you let the doctor know if your husband is allergic to codeine. If he is still coughing up phlegm, use an OTC cough medicine that will help thin and break up the phlegm. That will make his coughs easier and more productive.

Antibiotics generally take 24 to 48 hours to begin to work. If he is getting worse I would take him into the Doctor or Emergency room.
