Does anyone know what (besides the diagnosis of chronic renal failure, crf) could be causing my cats creatinine level to rise but his bun level to stay normal? I want to know if creatinine could signal anything else besides renal failure.

I guess you've already been to the vet if you're asking this question. I'm not a vet, but in humans, elevated creatinine doesn't always mean renal failure. The serum creatinine is an indicator of kidney's filtration function, when that filtration is impaired, Cr cannot be excreted and the level build up. But certain things like some medications can increase this. Also, if you have a lot more muscle mass, that can increase the Cr. However, most of the time abnormally high levels does correlate with renal dysfunction.
