Smoking causes the vasculature to constrict. When veins and arteries tighten there's less room for the fluid and the pressure inside increases. It's also the reason why smokers typically suffer from cold hands and feet.

Just about ever abnormal lifestyle will do that. Even being angry too often will do that. Smoking affects the lungs, and oxygen affects the bloodstream. Imagine that a lack of it will affect your heartrate. Anything that affects heartrate will affect your bloodpressure. This isn't a technical explanation, but I'm trying to illustrate that although it doesn't seem to, it will increase your blood pressure. I've smoked before, but I've only smoked about 8 cigarettes in my whole life. I smoked five on New Year's Eve, and 3 on another non-occasion. The more I smoked, the sicker of it I got until it got to the point where I couldn't even stand the smell of it. For some reason, I've only done it like a few times here or there, the way it was meant to be. Some smoke 5 packs a day! Basically, that's like walking around with the Grim Reaper following you anywhere you go.

certain substances from the cigarette (gooey) will travel with the blood through the arteries and along the way deposit on the sides of the artery. this will then become stuck. when the blood cant get through there is a lot of pressure trying to get through the arteries. causing an increase in blood pressure. every time a cig is smoked this cycle repeates until the blood pressure gets higher and higher and higher until one day there will be no oxygen able to get through the arteries causing a heart attack or stroke.

Nicotine does play a role in acute episodes of some diseases (including stroke, impotence, and heart disease) by its stimulation of adrenaline release, which raises blood pressure, heart rate, and free fatty acids. On average, tobacco increases your heart rate 10 to 20 beats per minute, and it increases your blood pressure reading by 5 to 10 mmHg (because it constricts the blood vessels).
Please see the web pages for more details on Health effects of tobacco smoking and Smoking and smokeless tobacco.

Nicotine causes the arteries to contract, hence decreasing blood flow while your heart is still pumping away. It's like turning the tap on and then pinching the hose a little...you create more pressure.

Smoking can restrict blood vessels which in turn raises blood pressure. This put undue stress on your heart as it has to pump harder to get the return blood vessels to return the blood to the heart.

Because the nicotene causes the vessels to close down (become smaller). According to the laws of physics, the pressure in a smaller vessel is greater than the pressure in a large vessel, all other things being equal.
