Every morning I cough up mucus for about three minutes. This has been going on for half a year. It usually goes away after that, but sometimes I have to continue clearing out my throat. I've been to the doctor several times, but I have yet to get an answer. I'm told it's only my allergies and I shouldn't be concerned.

What is wrong with me?

It is most likely allergies but you really need to go see a pulimnologist. I had the exact same symptoms with no smoking for years. I have never smoked and could not understand why I had this problem. I went to this specialist and he prescribed medications that really helped. It turns out I do have some minor allergies but also have asthma. He gave me a prescription of Predisone which is a steriod that brought up almost all of the old mucous along with Singular. The Singular cleared up the drainage and then after a two week prescription of the Predisone prescriptions were written for Allbuterol and a wonderful medication called Advair was given. These medications along with the Singulair keep the lungs clear and allow the air sacs in your lungs take in full breaths of air. I did not realize how miserable I was until I started these medications. Guess what, very little mucous is present. Some days I actually have none. See a pulmnologist soon!!

I have had this same problem for about 2 years, now. I also thought it was allergies at first, but the problem doesn't go away or subside even when there are no allergens around, so I figure it's probably not allergies after all.

Someone told me I might have a polyp in my nose that is preventing mucus from draining properly. Maybe you could ask your doctor if that might be the cause of your problems?

Hi. Your differential is high with your symptoms, but start simple. First, is your place of residence clean? dust particles, pet dander, and other allergens can cause chronic cough, so my suggestion is to clean/vacum up and dust as best as you can. Think about a air purifier.
Next, start taking a daily vitiamin. As much obesity as there is in America, some people under eat and don't get enough nutrients to help there bodies fight off viruses or to adequately mount a response.
Medical stuff: Sometimes bronchitis can last a long time and because its caused most of the time by viruses, there's not much you can do but just wait. Drink plenty of fluids and rest if your feeling ill.
Any hx of TB? get a TB test. Likely this is not it, but you could just get a simple test for this and can do it as a nursing vist so you won't have the long waits for MD's.
Get a CXR (chest x-ray) if you haven't already gotten one and GO OVER IT WITH YOUR DOCTOR. Don't just let it fall into the hand a radiologist who knows nothing about your history.
Do you live in midwest ares? there are some types of fungi that can inhabit peoples lungs like Histoplasmosis, Blastomycosis..etc. Some people live with these critters there whole lives and never know it...something to consider if you live in places like Arizona, Mississippi, Texas and Ohio.
You can aslo see an allergist who specilaizes in allergies and may receieve some tests to see what may trigger certain reactions.
I hope this helps, but my best advice is start simle with ergonomics taking presidence...it is likely that your place needs a thorough cleaning. Oh yea...exercise. Exercise can raise your immune system. EAT BETTER. Fruits, vegatables. Your garbage can gets hungry to so feed it soda, sweets, junk food...do away with them.
Just so you know I am a second year medical resident and this what I tell all my patients...Good Luck.

It probably is your allergies so be sure your room is dust free and use a hypoallergenic pillow and mattress cover. Take you allergy medicine as prescribed and use Sudafed at night before you go to bed. You can get Sudafed without a prescription but you have to get it from the pharamacist d/t to many people abusing it and making meth out of it.

i'd get a 2d opinion. I comprehend going to a diverse vet, isn't very sensible, yet----finding on the place you reside there are particular days while vets would have an 'open health facility', or there are even 'cellular vet' businesses too. additionally, attempt calling a Boxer Rescue group and decribing your boxer's 'historic previous' in this subject. they typically have a vet they use and can ask for you. verify you tell them that's a puppy shop pup. additionally, respected breeders are continually satisfied to respond to questions and ought to have the flexibility to lead you in the main appropriate direction. regrettably, this all looks to have started to ensue approximately while doggies offered at 'puppy shops' usually start to 'bypass downhill'.... Sorry, that doesn't help lots does it? do exactly the appropriate you are able to, attempt and stay advantageous, (that's a good breed usually and that's one ingredient he does have going for him.....) And please save us published. Woof. additionally, usually while a canine has 'Kennel Cough', the WORST place to maintain him is on the vets. He already is compromised, well-being clever, and is extremely susceptable to the different infections, well-being matters, and so on. regrettably, maximum vets do no longer even positioned canines with this subject in isolation---they only positioned them with all the different canines. (Please be conscious, i did no longer say ALL vets.) thank you.

sinus, allergies but i agree that you need to see another dr.

also consider second hand smoke as a factor-i grew up in a non smoking home but all of the relatives were cigarette or cigar smokers. i live in the midwest & respiratory conditions are higher here due to the lack of altitude and other things. if no medical solution solves your problem maybe moving might be your best solution

i hope this helps

It could possibly be sinus drainage. When you sleep it drains down your throat so it's usually worse in the morning when you get up.

It's a fairly common condition and nothing to worry about. Try one of the mucus relief products you will find at your local drug store.
