Evidently you aren't totally aware of just how serious and bad diabetes is. It is called the "silent killer". It will make you go blind, destroy your kidneys, increase the possibility of heart problems plus a slue of other problems such as "wild" mood swings. Make no mistake about it.......diabetes is deadly.

IF you have diabetes and the doctor puts you on a restricted diet, don't try to "pull a quickie" on him and get high sugar food. It will KILL you. Diabetes WILL cause sores and such to heal slower. Older people have to VERY careful with foot sores. It can turn into gangrene. Too much sugar in the blood is not good at all!!!! Good luck. Pops

The high Blood Sugar Levels that follow sneaking these tasty treats are what will slow the bodies healing proccess down. Having high BSL will also allow infection to get into the affected area. I would say that following the eaing plan would be SSSOOOO important. So the wound can heal properly without infection which could also lead to gangrene(not good).

Just to mention that when I have the slightest sore on my foot from shoes or whatever it takes like 3-4 months to heal anyway.

I wanted to have a boob job and the doc shook his head at me and advised that for a diabetic to want surgery that is not neccesary they BSL would have to be perfect and monitored so closely.
So don't eat what you are told not to or your wound will become infected

Slow healing of infection is one of the symptom of diabetes. this is because, in diabetes insulin is not properly generated by body and your body don't get enough power of healing.
other major symptoms of diabetes are
Increased thirst, Increased urination, Increased appetite, Fatigue, Blurred vision, weight loss.
i got information from http://www.medical-health-care-information.com/encyclopedia/d/Diabetes.asp

Healing process will be delayed and decreased if their sugar levels are not controlled. another concern is that Dr's will adjust the medication of the person who is sneaking lollies and so forth, so when they don't have these extras in their diet, they are likely to have a hypo. (low sugar) attack. which is also dangerous to their long term health. Uncontrolled diabetes leads to many other illness such as vessel diseases, heart disease, etc.

I'm going to reinforce what the others are saying. In the beginning, when I was in denial, I wasn't taking very good care of myself. I noticed that things took awhile to heal.... sometimes weeks. Now that I'm taking excellent care of myself, I heal very fast... usually in a few days. This is something you don't want to fool with. The consequences are far too serious and so miserable. Trust me... I watched my mother go down, down, down.... right to the end with dementia and all kinds of nasty stuff. You don't want to go there. You can avoid the complications if you act now and change the way you think about eating from living to eat, to eating to live. Diabetics heal slower. When you have higher carb/ higher sugar contents your body will dump glucose, this will slow down your healing and your working against your body. Increase your vit C and protein to promote wound healing.
