All the suggestions for decorations and costumes above sound great. As far as food, you can't go wrong with recipes from the Brown Derby restaurant. It was THE place to see and be seen. Two of their most famous recipes were the Cobb salad (Bob Cobb owned the restaurant) and chiffon cake. There were cookbooks published with recipes from the Brown Derby, though I think they are all out of print. Try your local library.

Old Hollywood was about glamour and excess. Think long ropes of pearls, fur coats, high heels, tux's, cigars and teased hair. It was about elegance and style. You might want to consider a theme such as "The Romance of Hollywood". Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Katherine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, and others like them were popular then. Have a pink and black theme with pearls and martini glasses. Have your friends dress up to match the era you are looking for, perhaps in a costume shop? Make "mock martini's" and see if you can find those old fashioned long stemmed cigarette holders. Food was hearty then too and actresses didn't go for the super thin look, so think about some finger type of foods to go with your theme: cheddar smokies wrapped in cresent rolls, mini meatballs in bbq sauce, pizza rolls, and the likes. Have fun!

Why don't you do a CASABLANCA themed party and turn the place into Ric's Cafe? Have a grand piano too, just like in the movie... altho I think adults would enjoy it more :)
