went to the dr, she said that I have acute broncitis, but I had
pnemonia last year and this feels so much like it. I get really
bad coughing fits and then my head hurts from coughing and I can
hardly talk without rasping for air. I have asthma as well. I am not
doing to good at this point. I have been on zithromax for four days
now and I was given a codine cough syrup as well as an inhaler and I am running a fever off and on... should I go back to the Dr?
or should I continue to lay in bed and suffer? Any home remedies out there?? I would love to know about them. THANKS

no chest xray was taken. I was put out of
work through today and I have to return to work on Monday and I am hoping that I
can get in better shape by then. AND it
doesn't help that the temp outside is a
chilling 17 degrees.... I am staying in, having groceries brought in and resting
as much as I can.... except getting on here.

thanks for all the suggestions, I will try them all

thanks again

Was a chest xray taken? That is how pneumonia is diagnosed. Continue to take the Zithromax. Most antibiotics need to build up in your system before they can make a difference in the way you are feeling. I'd give it a few more days before going back to the doctor.

I would suggest not laying flat in your bed. Prop yourself up on an extra pillow, being on a slight incline will keep fluid from building up in your lungs and will avoid bronchitis turning into pneumonia.

It could be pneumonia. Alot of respiratory problems are difficult to diagnose. If you don't feel any better soon, you should make another appointment. Try turning on the shower and letting the bathroom steam up and then going in there for about 10-15 minutes and breath the warm steamy air. That might help a bit. Drink some green tea too. Hope you feel better soon!

I wouldn't panic and assume pneumonia -- it doesn't really sound like that. It's more likely that you're having acute exacerbation of your asthma, which is also commonly caused by very cold weather -- however, it's also very likely that the acute bronchitis (the reason you're taking the antibiotic zithromax) is causing great exacerbation of your asthma as well.

I think you'll be ok, but you can go back to your doctor to see if he thinks that maybe short-term inhaled corticosteroids or some other bronchodilator might help relieve the acute attacks you're having.

A powerful antibiotic such as Azithromycin works by inhibiting one aspect of bacterial replication. When genes are decoded within a ribosome in bacteria, the process is called translation. Translation is a crucial step in making proteins allowing the bacteria to grow. Azithromycin works by inhibiting this translation. This does not allow the bacteria to grow and hence replicate and spread through the body. This effective selectivity allows for fast and immediate response with minimal side effects.
As with all drugs, there are always side effects. In Azithromycin they can occur if the right dosages are not administered or if there is some adverse reaction between the drug and the individual. Common Azithromycin side effects include diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Azithromycin and its tolerability by the body is the reason for its minimal side effects is due to the selectivity of. If they become severe or more frequent, seek medical aid as soon as possible and discontinue use of Azithromycin to avoid further damage.
There are many precautions that must be taken before taking the drug. Some warning tell you not to use the drug if you are on birth control pills, if you are allergic to drugs such as Azithromycin and if you take antacids containing aluminum or magnesium. A simple visit to your physician is always the best way to avoid these issues.
If you are one of the many people who suffer from or are at risk from suffering any one of the many bacterial infections, talk to your physician about Azithromycin. Discuss your problems and listen carefully to his or her instructions. Azithromycin is both effective and has minimal side effects making it a choice for many

any fever? usually a fever will indicate infection. my advice is drink plenty of fluids..ie. water, juice. dont stay in bed all day. sit up and walk around as much as you can tolerate. pnemonia is caused by fluid accumulation in the lungs which is an excellent breeding ground for germs. getting up and moving ensures that your lungs are opening up and shifting the fluids. also, drinking plenty of water will loosen up any secretions and help you to cough them out. try some deep breathing exercises every hour. take 5+ deep breaths and then cough after. this also opens up the lungs
