Post nasal drip is caused by a condition called sinusitis, which is usually caused by allergies or infection, and the two usually go hand-in-hand. Allergies cause the sinus tissues to swell, so they don't drain properly, and the end result is post nasal drip. A similar thing can happen if a persons has a septum that is not aligned correctly, if the sinus cavities are abnormally narrow, or if polyps have developed in the sinuses. You need an MRI to see if any of these physical abnormalities exist. You may also need to take antibiotics if you have a low-grade infection.

Allergy medicines often don't work on their own, but they sometime work better when taken along with a decongestant such as sudafed and an expectorant such as mucinex. Some allergy medicines such as benedryl cause the sinuses to dry out, which can aggravate the problem. There are also steroid-based nasal sprays that work wonders for some people, while creating an even worse problem for others.

Getting some nasal spray called Ocean. I had post nasal drip last year and th ocean spray really helped. Trying drinking lots of water to thin out mucus too. You might want to stay away from milk for a while, as milk causes more mucus to form in the back of the throat.
