If you definitely want to have a soft drink at your child's party, I'd go with a clear variety like 7-Up or Sprite. I would steer clear of the flavored waters like Aquafina puts out, as many of those have aspartame and children are not supposed to consume aspartame. The idea of doing a punch where you mix fruit juices with a clear soda is pretty good compromise. It gives you the fizziness that your kids will like but it will have some healthier content to it. Be sure to find a kid friendly mix of flavors.

For large parties we used to mix in a punch bowl, 7-UP and Cranberry Juice.
You can use diet 7-up (or sprite) to cut back on the sugar and any other type of juice you like.
No caffiene...
Reduced sugar by cutting it with diet soda.
Still get the sweet flavor.
Vitamin C from the cranberry juice.
Other drinks... similar concept
Shirley Temple
2 parts ginger ale or sprite
1 part orange juice
1 small jar of marachino cherries
1 orange sliced into thin rounds.
pour it all into the punch bowl, plus the juice from the marachino cherries. The orange and the cherries make for a neat little presentation in the punch bowl.
Do people still use punch bowls?

Diet drinks are not good for children. Gatorade is a good choice on hot days if they are playing outside in hundred degree weather, but it contains more sugar than a regular coke (which isn't good, either). The smoothie idea is a great one. The kids would probably love to help make them, and choose their own ingredients. If water is your choice, though, use food coloring to entice children to drink it. It doen't change the taste, and it really is the best thing for them.

Try some Hansen's sodas! Their 100% natural and have great flavors. If you're in to making a punch, then try frozen orange juice, pineapple juice or lemonade, grape juice and sparkling water. Top it off with some Raspberry sherbet and you have a nice, not too unhealthy, sparkling drink that is also festive!

Anything from Trader Joes like Apple Juice. If you think it is too sweet, just dilute with water. Or you can do a drink mix like, kool aide and not add sugar. Or you can brew tea and mix it with a fav fruit drink that your kids like. that way it will be less sweet and they will be less likely to suffer from a sugar high. Hope this helps.

Juice slush - fresh fruit juice, either a single variety or a combination (orange, cranberry, apple, pineapple, etc), whizzed in a blender with lots of ice. Serve with wide straws they can slurp through - the ice cuts the sweetness of the juice and therefore the sugar, and the texture makes it fun and interesting for them.

Various fruit juices mixed diet lemonade - or sparkling water. Put them into large clear jugs and serve in clear plastic cups and it can be healthy, and thirst quenching and colourful. Remember to get pure juice not "juice drink" as this contains sugar.

There's an oxymoron for ya! Try milk (chocolate or white) or bottled juices that don't have too much sugar if you really want healthy. You could always serve water. Even sugar-free koolaid is better than carbonated beverages.

Lots of people are telling you good ones. Here's a couple to avoid:
Sunny Delight, any of the 'colas'.
Try offering plain old unflavoured whole milk. Kids will be amazed at the taste and provided you don't overdo it it's much nicer than skimmed or semi skimmed when drunk on its own.

In relaity- water, there's something you can find fault with about everything else!
However, smoothies are fab (and kids love to kae them which is a boon),,and diluted fruit juice is fine. Milk is great, but so many kids are intollerant these days (2 of mine are)
