Warm is better for some oils, but cool is better, because you can add hydrogen peroxide, which helps greatly to fight infections. For allergies, you also should learn "lavage". Add a pinch of salt to 1/2 cup warm water, and sniff it up your nose. (with your head over the sink of course) That cleans all the garbage out of the sinus cavities.

I have found that any type of moisture, cold or warm, hurt my allergies, you need dryness, that is why people move to Arizona, it is not humid, and better for you to breathe. I bought a dehumidifier and it helped my allergies, takes the moisture out of the air.
