Clearly you are not eating in the right places!
Choose your restaurants/pubs carefully and you can get delicious traditional British/English food. But be wary of chain pubs and pubs that just put frozen food in the microwave, what you want is proper homecooking pubs.
And there's nowt wrong with fish and chips - they're great up here in the North, anyway!

Thats just not true.
I can safely say as a person who lives in the UK I never eat traditional english food! Hardly anyone eats cottage pie these days!
In my very small home town we have Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, Vegetarian only, Low Carb, high protein restaurants.
So I think you should be able to find somewhere if you just take the time to look.
I don't eat burger king, or curry, or any sort of meat infact, so how do you think I manage if all we eat is the things listed above?!!
you clearly just haven't bothered to take 2 minutes to look for somewhere.

I think it largely depends on the sort of food you are used to eating in your daily course of life......if you like strong flavoured food which is highly spiced or has chili or garlic in it you will naturally find English cuisine flat and tasteless as you are missing the delicate nuances of the lighter flavours.......no one is forcing you to go into Burger King, you choose to go there possibly because you favour that type of food with that sort of flavour........I would like to think you haven't a too narrow view on matters to think all English food is poor.....after all, I am sure there are good and bad restaurants in every country just as there are good and bad dishes.......If you have such good taste in food I am surprised you have opted to eat in Burger King rather than to try a roast lamb/beef or pork dinner or fish and chips, perhaps you should also try real ale as an alternative to one of our flat beers though I hate to think where you have chosen to eat and drink as the meal you mention sounds pretty poor though that might just be you being prejudice and perhaps you are criticising our cuisine on the one poor meal you chose........guts and veins in a cottage pie.....I don't think so, it's as minced as spaghetti bolognese is....me thinks you exagerate my friend.....

You are obviously eating in all the wrong places! British food is now internationally acclaimed and recognised as being some of the finest in the world! And I am not talking about just the expensive, star-rated restaurants, but alos great gastro-pubs, wonderful Bistros, and amazing neighbourhood restaurants.
No, you are most definately eating in all of the wrong places.
ps. Personaly I would NEVER eat in Burger King or any other mass produced, faceless corporation's junk, fast food outlet!

i'm British and that i could say that I agree. I wouldnt say that classic british nutrition is nasty, its only somewhat bland and uninteresting (nicely, while in comparison with most of the stuff in the international). It in all probability has some thing to do with we stored it basic because of the fact we are an island had constrained get entry to to greater unique aspects, and in all probability positioned little value on nutrition because of the fact we've been too busy conquering the international (sorry, couldnt stand up to that! haha) yet heavily, the type one do away with nutrition in england at present isn't fish and chips as that is been for some years yet CURRY, which i admire with a keenness.....

Where do you eat???! Since when does cottage pie have guts and veins in it???! Its beef mince, just the same as is in your burger king burgers! If I were you I'd try eating at some nice places as opposed to whereever it is you've been going.

You're inability to seek out proper food says more about you than it does about England. May I suggest you stay away?...that might solve your problem.
If you are American...I have to object as I saw an advert for 'Arbys' that actually made me feel sick. Americans will eat molten orange cheese tipped over a lump of meat and washed down with a glass of flavoured fat called a 'shake'.
Hardly ones to talk about cuisine.
