I was hit with extreme fatigue yesterday and it won't go away. I slept for 18 hours yesterday, never waking once! My girlfriend said it was nearly impossible to wake me (usually it's very easy). I have been the same way today. Every time I sit on the couch, I am out cold. I slept through several phone calls (which always wake me). Once in a while I will experience some minor chest pain, usually after I eat or smoke a cigarrette. I have had a couple bouts of dizziness that lasts for maybe a minute or so at a time. When I wake up from these deep sleeps, I have a hard time taking full breaths and have to wait about 20 minutes before I feel comfortable breathing. I have been coughing up a bit of mucus as well. My low back has been extremely painful, but not sure how that can be causing these symptoms. Anyone ever experience anything like this?

There are many reasons you could be experiencing this fatigue, according to the symptoms you listed -- and a lot of it depends on how old you are. You might just have low thyroid hormone levels, which could produce almost everything you described. If you're middle-aged or older, it might be obstructive pulmonary disease (bronchitis, emphysema, or asthma), which fits most of the respiratory issues you described. It might be angina (heart disease), which is pretty consistent with a lot of the things you mentioned, or an aortic aneurysm, which might be causing your back pain as well as anemia. Other common reasons for fatigue include obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, infection, autoimmune disorders, etc

As you can see, there are many, many things to consider, and you should make an appointment with your doctor so that you can get to the bottom of it, and get to feeling better.

Go to the doctor--now. This could be really serious. You could have pneumonia. You've got the cough, with mucus; shallow breathing; chest wall pain; and feeling very tired (fatigue). For all symptoms see the link below. The lower back pain could just be from being in bed so long. The dizziness could be from an ear infection. Please note, I'm not a doctor. Take care.

you have some symptoms of anemia. Anemia is a condition caused when the body produces to few red blood cells, looses them or destroys them faster then the body can effictavly replace them. most often this condition is caused by an iron deficency, but there are other factors that may cause it.
some symptoma of anemia are:
fatigue, chest pain, dizziness, and sometimes anema can cause the spleen to elongate, causing back pain.
i would recomend seeing your doctor, they can do a simple blood test to rule out amemia or conferm

Go see a doctor. Give up smoking. If you are coughing really hard it could hurt your lower back. You need to get checked out. If you're in the UK phone NHS Direct - they're in the phone book - tell them your symptoms and they'll advise you. It's a 24 hr service so you can find out something right away. Good luck.

Because smoking leads to coughing which damages the alveoli in the lungs. As a result, diffusion rate of oxygen is lowered. Less oxygen results in lower respiration rate. Less oxygen goes to the brain so that you will feel tired easily.

Hope that u can smoke less or even do NO smoking so that the situation may change :)
