I am going out on a limb here, but it sounds like acid-reflux. The acids that escape up your digestive tract can cause extensive damage and cause symptoms like you are experiencing. There are many medicines available, but I cured mine through diet. I stopped drinking coffee, no dairy, no chocolate, no spice, no fried or fatty/oily foods, kept meat to a minimum, no smoking, no alcohol, and no acidic foods. I ate things that were cool (base), easy to digest: almonds, rice, vegetables, soy milk, aloe vera juice, beans, fish, and no eating or drinking around or during bed time. After three months I was back to normal. Life was boring for three months though!
