Actually, many doctors and other health care providers (even my own doctor) suggest that ALL young women get the new vaccine, not just women without HPV.
The new vaccine protects against 4 different kinds of HPV. Two that are known to cause genital warts and two that are know to cause cervical cancer. Most women don't have ALL 4 of those kinds that the vaccine protects against. So, if a woman only has one kind of HPV that the vaccine protects against and she gets the vaccine, theoretically, she should be protected against the other 3 kinds that the vaccine protects against.
I have had HPV for 6 years now. I developed cervical cancer at the age of 17 from it and I developed genital warts about a year ago from it. I STILL plan on getting the vaccine. I know that it is not a cure for me, but if I can somehow try to prevent ever going though either one of those again then I will.

Yes, it is thought to only be effective in preventing infection, not treating infection. However, the vaccine provides protection against 4 strains of HPV; if you fall within the recommended age range and have evidence of an HPV infection it still wouldn't be a bad idea to get vaccinated. If you've been exposed to all four - no harm, no foul. If you haven't, you pick up protection against the strains you have not be exposed to.

No it's not only for women who don't have HPV> My doctor advised me to get the vaccine since it's rate for a woman to have all major strands of HPV. If you have a certain strand then with the vaccine it can prevent you from getting the other strands.

yes I'm sure that is the case I mean it's like closing the barn door after the horse has run out of the barn. But hey I'd get vaccinated I'm 48 years old and I go for exams every year and also when I was younger as well. I have also been tested for HIV and other stds sometimes only because the doctor reccommended it and for HIV because my ex-husband used meth while we were married and he never told me if he shot it into his veins and I had unprotected sex. But the test came back negative and I got the test at the University I attend it was free and a nurse from the Health Dept comes every other week to do it. I can also get packets of condoms 8 of them and also a packet of water based lubricant from the Health Dept they are in a basket in the Student Health Center office. I think it's a really good thing they do because some girls are too worried that if they go to their family doctor for birth control the doctor will tell her parents about it.

No. The vaccine is not just for women who have not been diagnosed with HPV. If you do have HPV, the vaccine will not cure the case that you have.

I would imagine so since a vaccine is for preventing it and if you already have it, then you can't be vaccinated against it. However, there might be different types, so it might prevent you getting other types. Ask a doctor though.

How many lives did it save? If a drug kills 10 people, but the overall effect is that it saves 10s of thousands of lives, then should we ban it because it killed 10?
