Herpes really isn't that big of a deal. Everyone makes it out to be this huge issue and it's really not.

The main concern with genital herpes and giving birth is if the mother is having her first (or initial outbreak). This is the most severe and usually longest lasting outbreak and can be easily transmitted to the baby as it is coming through the birth canal. If the mother is having her first outbreak while she goes into labor the doctor usually suggests having a C-section. If the women is not on an outbreak it is PERFECTLY fine for the women to have a normal vaginal birth. I've read chances of a baby being born with herpes is less than 1%. It's pretty rare! If you are REALLY concerned you can always have a C-section. The baby can NOT get the virus if the mother has a C-section. Talk to your doctor about it when the time comes and see what they suggest you do.

I have personally been living with genital herpes for over 6 years now and I have a perfectly happy and healthy life. It hasn't changed my life in ANY way. It's really not as terrible as most people seem to make it. As long as your keep up your health and take your medication you should be just fine. Good luck!

Take a deep breath...and relax.......I have herpes, too. (I was diagnosed in 1995. I was devastated when I found out.) You're not alone. It's not a nice thing, but it's something you have to live with.

I also have a 2.5 year old son that I delivered vaginally in 2004. I took Valtrex for the last 2 or 3 months of my pregancy and did not have one problem!! My son was a 9 and then a 10 on the apgar....Weighing in at 8lbs 10.5oz...a perfect baby boy.

I know that everyone is different, but for me everything went just fine.

I wish you all the best. Cool tea bags directly on the sore area, and warm baths with epsom salt will bring you relief, if and when you should have another episode, but I hope that you won't.

Good luck to you.

My ex girlfriend told me she had herpes 4 weeks into our relationship. To be honest it did make me think but I decided that I loved her more than anything in the world and why make her feel bad as she didnt ask for it right... She was so open about the whole thing and I know everything there is to know abt herpes it really isnt that bad it depends what type of person you are and how you deal with it me I didnt care. I am sorry to say we split up she met someone else and I have been checked out at the clinic and I am clear I didnt catch it from her.

Herpes is a very common STD over 80 percent of america has it and only half actually no it hense the fact it is so easily spread. Men often are carriers who exhibit no symptoms and spread it easily to women . It is safe to have a baby while you have herepes you will half to have a c section only if you are having a current outbreak. There is little to no risk of spreading this virus to the baby. But the descsion is yours to make. Good luck.

PS
As for taking your meds it dose not stop or cure the virus. It supresses it meaning prevents you from having constant outbreaks. You can still spread it with out an outbreak.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!

when herpes is active it is very contageous. Having the virus doesnt automatically mean you are going to pass it on to anyone....like I said you have to have an outbreak for the virus to be caught by someone else. If you dont have an outbreak at the time of birth, then it is near impossible for your child to get it. Some people have been known to have one outbreak their entire lives, but still was told it was herpes....I am one of these people...I have had 3 children and none of them have been affected. Maybe the doctor who diagnosed me made a mistake because I had one episode when I was in my early 20s...thats all. I get the feeling, I didnt have herpes at all, and he made a diagnosis based on what he saw. Is there a blood test to prove beyond a doubt you have herpes...or was it just an observation made by a doctor. I am going back years and years, so maybe the diagnosis of herpes has improved. Regardless of whether you definitely have herpes or not...you will only be contageous when you have an outbreak.
