I agree, no sensible vegans can *really* contest that we were deigned to eat meat. Even most vegan scientists agree that human's are designed to eat meat, that is not in question.
That we do not have claws, talons, or incisors to hunt proves nothing. When early hominids ate meat they scavenged it, as vultures do, using their fingers to get the sinews and meat other animals couldn't. It was only after that that they began to hunt the meat themselves, and only much later they began to cook it. It is interesting that even now if someone was brought up eating raw meat he would have no problem with it.
The last few million years of human evolution have revolved completely around tools. We used advanced stone tools long before we began to hunt our own meat, and as such there was no need for evolution to bestow us with large claws or teeth to kill prey.
Simple research into human biology reveals how we are meant to eat meat. For one thing, our body produces hydrochloric acid and meat splitting enzymes that herbivores don't produce and are solely used for the digestion of meat. There are adaptations to our teeth (not incisors, rather the size of the jaw), stomach and intestines which have made a human being very adept at meat digestion. There is nothing wrong with the way our body digests meat, and we are so adept at eating it no scientists are of any doubt we've evolved to eat it.
In contrast, there are many reasons we aren't naturally herbivores. We cannot naturally get all the nutrients we need without animal products naturally. Vitamin B12 cannot be got, even now, without animal products or supplements, and a lack of it can cause anaemia and impending death. 60% of vegans even now have some level of B12 deficiency, as opposed to no meat eaters, which says something about how well adapted we are to a vegan diet.
All other nutriets can be got natually. That owes to that vegtables can now be sold all year round, even out of season, and can be flown into the country from all over the world. In bygone times people could only eat the relatively small range of plants that grew in their ecosytem, and only when they were in season. Thus many more nutrients would have been unavailable and still more unavaillable for most of he year. Until very recently it would have been impossible for a vegan human to live naturally without dying very quickly.
Now, meat makes up for all these lost nutrients very nicely, and it really shows how we aren't naturally vegans, as until very recently it was impossible to live like that.

Are you just here to rant and rave? I'm not a vegetarian, but I support those who are. It's a personal choice, just like music taste, favorite color, even religion. Do you know how many nutrients the average human is missing because nobody eats their fruits and vegetables? Put down the candy bar and try a carrot! I eat healthier than most people, but I still take a vitamin, an antioxidant supplement, and b-complex (only because my body doesn't process B vitamins well). It's because I want to be at my healthiest. I guess I'm not seeing the self indulgence here. Eating vegetables and healthy proteins instead of artery cloging red meat doesn't really seem bad to me.
I know it seems off topic, but it is a real rant. Why do I eat 90% organic food? It's because of all the f-ing chemicals put into everything you eat. Even vegetables are covered in chemicals. For some reason, I don't think that's healthy. You talk about hunter-gatherers, I don't think that way back when they covered their food in chemicals, sugars, and salt before they ate. So until you are chemical free, eat whole grains, cut down on junk food, and eat more fresh produce, you can't complain.

No. I think this is the pot calling the kettle
black. Vegs are the only ones in the
population considerate enough to act
like this planet exist for everybody.
Also, it is not natural to kill animals
through mechanized means. If
anything it is cowardly and abusive
to nature and it's elements.
Factory farming is only natural if
you like living in an Alvin Toffler
novel.
As for your arguments about
taking supplements------
It doesn't wash water. Far too
many meat eaters take B-12
shots and iron pills and are
unable to give blood when I
do it every month.
How is vegetarianism politically
correct? I've seen several t.v. shows
this past year that depict Veggies as
overbearing and controlling.
2 men and a half, Sisters, Wife swap;
all had episodes depicting us as
tyrants. We choose our lifestyle
despite the ostracism and ridicule
some try to inflict on us not for
any praise or political correctness.
Let me let you in on a secret : There are no
pats on the back for being vegetarian.
But guess what. NONE of us care
because that's not important to us.

We are herbivores but anyway regardless of the herbi versus omni or carnivore argument meat eaters are the decadent ones more land is used feeding animals to be eaten by us than for anythign else why not use the land to grow food which is what our ancestors did. Also meat is imported at high expense from abroad as well as vegetables and we dont need to get veg from abroad we should all be eating fruit and veg that is in season and grown here and you will fidn that a lot of vegetarians are eco friendly and try to eat local produce from farmers markets. Also most mature veggies wouldnt dream of telling ervyone else what to do unlike a lot of meat eaters who are very aggressive and for some reason hate vegetarians which you seem to or at the very least you seem annoyed by us. Also most veggies dont need to take supplements and are not anaemic - im certainly not, and out of all my feinds and family im the healthiest and strongest person i know. Always rememeber Gandhi wsa a vegetarian and he was renowned for his high intellect not to mention his pacifism and ingenious problem solving, somethign he himslef attributed to his vegetarianism. I think a lot of meat eaters need to learn self restraint and to respect the earth, even though many of them ar elovely people in every other way, they are not horrible just a bit thoughtless, probably very much like you. Smile, the world is still a beautiful place in many ways.

Considering that raising cattle for food uses an enormous amount of natural resources and contributes heavily to pollution (20% of methane gas pollution is from animals), I suppose we should thank *you* for global warming, polluted and insufficient waterways, misused resources, etc.
And it's possible to eat a perfectly healthy vegetarian diet with little or no additional suppliments. The assumption that we "need" meat in our diet is about as far off base as it can get and still be in the neighborhood of the ballpark.
As far as self-indulgence is concerned, I don't think meat-eaters have any room to talk. The same 22 pounds of grain that it takes to produce 1 pound of meat would feed several people for more than a day -- as opposed to two or three people for one "Hamburger Helper" dinner.
There is nothing "natural" about slitting a cow's throat or bashing in its brains with a hammer just so a human being can indulge himself in a cholesterol-heavy burger or steak. So I'm afraid your little trolling attempt here hasn't really impressed anyone or changed our minds about the foods we choose to eat.

I'm assuming you go out and hunt for your food then do you?
What makes me laugh is that some people have absolutely no idea of the process their food goes through by the time it reaches the supermarket shelf.
In the neolithic period, you think animals were pumped full of synthetic hormones ?? and are you suggesting their diets were healthy and that they lived a long life?? - Geesh, you need to rethink your arguement, or at least think of another angle dull, dull, dull- this whole prehistoric arguement - is exactly that!!!

Oh, a meat eatering talking cliched rubbish. What a surprise !
Its extremely boring of you, and lacks imagination, to spread this mis-information.
"most veggies" do not take supplements and are not mildly anaemic.
"The facts are if you go veggie you have to take these additives to your diet in order to get the nutrition you are MISSING by not eating meat/fish/ eggs"
What ? So I'm what then ? DEAD ?
Maybe I'm a biological miracle !

I dont see why you care what somebody else eats or doesnt eat. If you really want to take on an unhealthy way of eating, why not take on fast food restaurants, soda manufacturers, and trans and saturated fats. At least you would be helping more people in the world to live a healthier lifestyle.

why do you think it is self indulgent? i think a lot of non vegetarians are threatened by this diet. there must be some psychological almost tribal importance to what one eats. i think youd have to ask why are you interested in what another person eats? i find this phenomenon very interesting that some people are very concerned what myself and other vegetarians want to eat. im not a self indulgent person. im one of the nicest people you could know. as for sticking it in peoples faces, most people never know. and if they find out, i change the subject. im not here to argue. peace.
