Most of the hypertensive patients who are on Beta-Blockers like Atenolol since a long time, are complaining of sexual weakness and lack of sexual desire. How can be managed these patients so that they do not feel sexual weakness & may enjoy their normal marital life like other people.

You should discuss this with your doctor as he understands your medical condition in more details than what you are telling us.

Beta Blockers has a negative effect upon male potency. It is a known fact.

In smaller dosage and / or in combination with other drugs it may be a reversible situation. In case of non-response your doctor will surely consider the use of sildenaphil citrate which is not contraindicated in hypertensives who passes an exercise tolerance test.

Best of luck

Most of the other posters on this subject seem to be fairly "on the btton" so to speak. It may be that a change of med is all that is required i.e move from a Calcium Channel Blocker like Amlodipine or a Beta Blocker like Atenolol to a mixture of possibly Lisinopril (An ACE inhibitor) plus your Dco might throw in a Diuretc into the mix as well.

The fact is the longer you go on any particular med, the greater the chance of some sort of side effect. I had problems with Bendroflumethiazide ( a Diuretic) and Amlodipine which were giving me wild cramps in the legs and I was changed to a slightly reduced dosage of thiazide and Lisinopril.

The Bottom line is that your Doc will now best and there are medications that can be taken for "Erectile Dysfunction" as it's known - isn't that a great phrase? :-( It is not the end of all matters now that it nice was.

Listen to what the Doc has to say and stay away from all the nice offers you get via email nowadays! :-)

I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but: Ask your doctor about Altace! It's one of the pricier ACE inhibitors, but I think it's for good reason. I haven't had your problems, and I'm on Altace, but it could be due to some other reasons. Have your doctor make sure other medications aren't conflicting with what you're taking. Sometimes it's just a matter of what time in the day you take it.

Good luck! I feel for you.
