They have to have you sign a waiver to check for HIV.

You CAN have yourself tested for HIV by requesting the test from your doctor. Of course, an HIV test can't be done on you without your express consent (unless it's an emergency situation involving your blood and the possibility of someone else becoming potentially contaminated). The test itself though, isn't part of standard testing for a checkup. It does have to be specifically requested.

I have had blood tests before, and the doctor told me that the general blood test for a regular physical does not include the test for HIV or other STDs. If you want to be tested for HIV, you need to ask for it. However, if your regular blood test comes back with abnormal results, then the doctor may order additional tests anyway to rule out diseases.

HIV is not checked when they screen for STDs.
The patient has to specifically ask for HIV testing & answer some confidential questions.

Then they'll draw blood ONCE & do ALL the tests requested.

You have to ask for an HIV test. It's not part of the normal blood screening of a regular check up.
Regular blood screenings check cholesterol, liver enzymes, iron levels and things of that nature.

They check for a bunch of stuff but NOT HIV. You would have to ask for that test. They may ask you, then you would need to sign a consent form.

No, the doctor would have to ask for an HIV test to be done additionaly to the other blood tests that are being done.

You have to ask for the test. They don't typically test for STDs; tests like that have to be ordered.

When women go to the gynecologist, they do test for STDs there, but only the most common ones: HIV, Chlamydia, and HPV.

You have to ask them to test for HIV, unless you're getting a general STD screening.
