I am a vegetarian because I hate the taste of meat. I hate the way it feels in my mouth. I am NOT one of those "Save the animals" "The animals have feelings too" PETA type vegetarians. I chose not to eat meat for the same reason you choose not you eat onions...I hate it!

I always thought that the inside of an animal was really gross. I always had a bad feeling about eating meat, ever since I was a little kid. I became vegetarian when I was 12, but it was a gradual and natural process for me. I just cut different meats out of my diet as I got older. I think the last time I ate pork was when I was 9 or 10. The last meat that I ate was beef.
It wasn't even the taste, it just really made me feel guilty when I ate meat. Thinking about the skinned animal, it seemed barbaric to me and I didn't even know what barbarism was. Everyone in my family are "meat and potatoes" people. I don't know where I was influenced.
I've always been a dog and cat lover and got my first dog when I was 6. So, maybe it was my love for animals. I couldn't differentiate between a dog and a cow so I thought eating a cow was bad, because I would never want to eat a pet.

People are vegetarian for different reasons.some for religious belief, some because of the cruelty involved in killing and breeding of these animals, and others for dietary reasons.i don't eat meat as i believe all three reasons but most importantly i feel that meet is so full of bad things these days and read meat is known to cause bowl cancer.a vegetarian person if educated on how to properly substitute meat is a much healthier person in the long run.i have not eaten meet for 13 years and i feel wonderful for it but it takes almost 2 years for your body to get used to it so i took an iron tonic for the first year.but these days there are so many good product out there for a vegetarian person.its the way the world is turning with all the decease in animals today.

I think lots of people become vegetarians because it's something different to do. People like being different or unique. Most vegetarians I know do it because they believe that animals shouldn't be killed for us to eat. So therefore, any animal that kills another animal to survive is a lesser animal? And why is it ok to kill a spinach plant too eat but not a cow?
But really, you should eat lots green vegetables. You may not like them but they are essential to living well. Try putting a bit of olive oil on them with some pepper. That always works for me.
And Peace...that article you posted is severely twisted. According to that article animal farming is ending the world as we know it. Which creates more greenhouse gas....? A cow's flatulence or shipping enough green vegetables from south america to everyone all over the US in the winter time because it's too cold to grow and produce them?

there are as many reasons as there are vegetarians, but here are some of the most common:
-health reasons: vegetarians, specifically vegans, remove or decrease harmful things form their diet that are found in meat and other animal products, like saturated fat, cholesterol, cancer-causing agents found in some animal products
-they dislike meat: i personallly have just never been a big fan of the stuff
-they are against animal cruelty
in addition someone might have other reasons- i have a friend who went vegan just because she wanted to try something new with her life that she hadn't done before
yes, clothing made from leather, and wool does come from animals
for this reason, many vegetarian, mostly vegans also choose not to wear clothing or use other products made form these materials

to answer your edit - yes, leather comes from cows. a lot of vegetarians will not wear leather or other animal skins.
i don't wear leather/etc and it's actually not been a huge problem - there are lots of options for non-leather belts/shoes/jackets/etc.
as for why i'm vegetarian...
-animal cruelty
-health reasons
-cost
-environmental reasons
-not really into the taste of most meats

I am a vegetarian for three main reasons: health issues (you should compare lifespans and quality of life statistics between vegetarians and non-vegetarians), animal rights issues, and ecological issues (raising meat takes up far more resources than vegetables/grains).

Ask yourself this question: Why should humans kill animals to eat, when we have plenty of other food already? I would eat meat if I had no choice and I do not consider animals that kill to survive unnatural. So, my reason is partly for animal rights. The other part is because of the economy. It takes up many resources and more of people's time to raise cattle, pigs etc. for food. Refer to the above question again. I consider killing animals for food, when it is not necessary, killing for fun.

Some people, like me, are vegetarian for health reasons. Some are vegetarian for animal rights. Those that are for animal rights generally wear no animal products either.
