I woke up and tested my blood sugar and it was at 201. I decided to take my medicine to try to bring it down. ( 1 glucotrol, 1 metformin ) Before taking the pills though, I ate a Strawberry poptart - 2 pastries which equalled around 28grams of sugar because i've had bad experience taking metformin on an empty stomach. I layed back down and slept for about an hour or so and woke up feeling somewhat lethargic. I figured my blood sugar dropped below 100 because of the medicine so I tested my blood sugar and it read 425. Can anyone explain this? I've had my levels sky rocket this high before, and I feel okay, so dont be worried I am just looking for some answers.

Your answer lies in your question. Pop-tarts have 37g of carbohydrate EACH, not 28g total. That's what happened.

Could be the sugar you ate. If you can't take medicine on an empty stomach, you should try eating something besides sugar or carbohydrates which convert to sugar. Also with diabetics, it has been seen that when the blood sugar rises high, there may be an infection somewhere. Good that you are checking your blood sugars, bad that you are eating pop tarts!!

Come on now! Why would you take meds for high sugar than eat pop tarts!!!??? You need some serious help from a diabetic educator!! How long have you been diabetic?? There is others things you can do to prevent an upset stomach when you take your meds. Protein, like a weinner, some cheese or such. Be wise, get educated.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

I suggest getting a referral for a nutritionist/dietician and/or diabetes educator to help you with better food choices.

You may have seen high blood sugar numbers before, but you don't want to make them a habit! The better your numbers are in control, the healthier you'll become, and the less likely you'll suffer side effects of diabetes later. You may feel "okay" now, but that might not always be the case if your sugars stay that high. You're right to be looking for answers and advice. Please don't limit that to Yahoo Answers!

You really need to talk to your doctor about establishing some sort of diet. Pop Tarts are terrible for diabetics. I am afraid that if you are eating those, you are eating many other bad thing too. I don't mean to offend you. I am Type 2 also and just started insulin this week. I never wanted to have to do shots, but my sugar was 230-300 all of the time, regardless of what I ate. Please take care of yourself.

ok---you need diabetic counseling. why bother taking your medicine with a chaser of poptarts. your blood sugar is high in the am because while you sleep you body is sending signals and those signals are saying i need something to eat. it is best if you eat a high protein snack before bed. 425 is a very scarey level for blood sugar, talk to your doctor today-- you need extra fiber in you diet,it helps counteract the carbs you eat.good luck

you really should go get some counseling on how to regulate your blood sugar. You should NOT eat sugary foods, to combat medication on an empty stomach. How about whole wheat toast? or a scrambled egg?

Go talk to your doctor, ASAP!

I would have to say that it maybe the foods that you are eating. When you lay down after you eat sweets aren't good.
