Inhale some steam for a few minutes before you go to bed. Initially you'll cough a bit more but just for a couple of minutes and then it usually aids more restful sleep. It's what I always do.

Also, as you are asthmatic, try to keep the bedroom the same temperature as the room you have just come out from so the change in air temp. doesn't also make matters worse.

Hope that helps

Long, hot showers help to break up mucous because the steam puts water vapor into the air, then it gets into the lungs and loosens the flem.

Do not take cough suppresants because coughing is the body's way of dispelling unwated junk in the lungs.

Find an expectorant such as Mucinex. The active ingredient in Mucinex used to be by prescription only, but now you can buy it over the counter.

You will probably find that you cough more when you are lying down. You should try to sit up in bed with a few pillows and something warm around you and you will start to doze and should not cough. Or do the same in an arm chair. A hot steaming drink will also help, try an OxO cube in hot water and drink it as hot as you can manage.
I hate coughs at night as you know that they are disturbing everyone. Best of luck.

First, have you spoken to a pulmonologist? That is a doctor that deals with the lungs/breathing. Second, you should have cool air humidifiers in the main rooms of your house, the bedroom and the living room, keep them on low but keep them on. That keeps the air moist for you and is easier to breathe. Next, make sure you keep hydrated, drink/eat lots of clear liquids, jello, 7-UP, Ginger ale, Chicken soup broth, etc. Your body functions better and fights infections better when it is well hydrated. Next, get plenty of rest, this is true whenever you are fighting any illness. Not just sleep, but rest!
Good luck and God Bless.

You should be on ventolin and becotide inhalers - if these are not working then there are other inhalers you can get. If the cough is not clearing you may need a second line antibiotic and steroids to ease the symptoms while you recover - you must go back to your Doctor.

Try to keep warm it's calms the coughing down and makes you sweat out, also you can try taking sudafed dry cough medicine, which will help dry up the phylem causing the tickle in your throat, and will ease the coughing slightly, and get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water.

I would reccomend asking your doctor to prescribe a codeine cough syrup to help you sleep at night. You could wind up breaking a rib from excessive coughing. Also, prednisone (a steroid) is sometimes prescribed to speed up recovery, but, your doctor would know if you required it.
