The obvious advantage is that suctioning keeps the patient's airway clear, so he can breathe.

Disadvantages: trauma to the airway if the suction catheter is jammed in too hard, and infection if supplies are not kept clean.

The machine itself is fine...what I would be concerned about is the person responsible for using it.
The person using this machine should know how to put it together, how to break it down and how to clean it, inside and out. There is and should be, a strict maintenance schedule for any breathing machine and all machines similar.
If used properly, this machine can help to sustain a person's airway and prolong life. If used wrong, it could hurt the patients airway, and possibly cause infection.
