I'm really wondering where half the people answering this question got their information from.

You absolutely do not need your parents to be present to be tested for STDs in any state I am aware of. Planned Parenthood, which has been suggested multiple times, is your best bet for confidential and affordable (often free for those who cannot pay) testing. Do keep in mind, however, some states allow physicians to disclose the fact that you have been tested and/or your results with your parents/guardian (assuming you are a minor). You will never have this problem at Planned Parenthood, but I thought it might be important to know. That said, however, if you have a good relationship with your primary care physician / family doctor then that is another option for you.

No, you do not need your parents to get tested for stds because of HIPAA. If you would need treatment then you would have to have parental consent to proceed with treatment. You could find someone who is over 18 to take you and you could be creative about who they are. Keep in mind if you do have an std then wherever you go has to report this to a health dept and they would request your partner(s) names. Is there someone in your family other than your parents you could trust enough to help with this situation?

In Michigan if you are 12 years old and older you can get tested for STD's and HIV without parental consent. However, if you use your parents insurance they may find out when the explaination of benefits come in the mail. So use a health department or planned parenthood agency if you don't want to tell them.

i wonder where some of u get your info from.
you do not need parental consent to get tested and if u in uk, yo can go to any sexual health clinic, gum clinic or doctor and get tested. also you do not need your parents consent to get treated, if you are under the age of 16 you can get free prescriptions, and no, the doctors/pharmasists can not tell your parents.
it would be better for you though if you do tell them though, because if you have unprotected sex, you can catch anything, even if you have done it once.
but if you decide not to tell your parents then maybe you should take a friend.
but remember if you do find that you have caught something, you must inform all those that you have had sex with so that they can also get tested and treated.

The only reason you should have to get your parents tested for std's is if you are having sex with them. I do not think you can get a std (sexual transmitted decease) from just living around the person......

Are you saying do I need my parents to go with me to get tested for std's?
Heck no you sure do not....

no you dont need ur parents to get tested for std's. if you are over the age of 16 you can go by urself but if you arent or you are scared to go by yourself you can get an older friend and they can also go with you. your parents dont need to know anything its 100% confidential.

Yes I think that you do if you are under 18. But you would want to find out from where ever you are going to get tested for them and make sure and if you don't then maybe a friend would go with you.

You can go alone to a Planned Parenthood clinic and get tested for free or for a small fee. Good luck!

Depends how old you are. But you could ask around maybe a school nurse or other teacher that would have an answer for you.
