Hello - Can you tell me what are my tests done for?

I have to go to the clinic tomorrow. They will give me a thyroid pill, then I have to go to the ultrasound. After a few hours and the next day I have to go back. I know it is for my Thyroid, but does anyone know exactly what they are looking for?

Thank you

:-)

Do you have an enlarged thyroid? They are proabably looking for your thyroid's size to make sure you do not have a nodule. Did they tell you that you have high thyroid function that you are treating or low? Most likely, it is a low function and that they are giving you a pill to make the hormones your thyroid would normally make. Sometimes people have to take pills if their thyroids are working too well. This decreases how much hormones a person's thyroid will make. In order to determine this, they probably tested your TSH level and Free T4. TSH is the hormone that tells your thyroid to work. If it is high, your thyroid is not working well so your body continues to send signals to it to tell it to work. If it is low, then your thyroid is working too well and your body doesn't need to tell it to work to the normal level it should be telling it to work. Free T4 is one of the hormones the thyroid makes, so if you have a low free T4, you should have a high TSH. Thus your brain is telling your thyroid to work more and your thyroid is not responding. In this case, they give you thryoid pills to replace it. If high free T4 and low TSH, it is working too well and the docs may give you meds to stop making the thyroid work more than it should. Hopefully this helps.
