Please help me find a reliable glucose monitor. Currently I'am using Ultra touch freedom
but get this really low readings that are in my opinion unreliable, due to lack of the usual
symptoms I acquire when I get hypoglycemic. Please help me.

My Ascencia Contour always agrees with the readings at my doctor's office (from the actual blood tests, not his meter).

Consumer Reports has tested and reviewed blood glucose monitors, but you need to be a member or subscriber to get the information online. Find the magazine at your local library and check the annual index.

Most of the models are fairly accurate, and in any event the thing is to use the same one over time. Changing models frequently just confuses the results.

All models come with a test fluid and how to test it. If you do not have it, you should get a replacement vial of test fluid and instructions on how to test your meter.

Over time, your reactions to hypoglycemia may change, especially if you are frequently borderline hypoglycemic or if you have serious diabetic neuropathy.

If this is a serious problem for you, take your meter when you go to the doctor's office and do your test and have the nurse do one with their meter. Compare results.

How long have you been diabetic, and / or under control? Usually when people are first diagnosed- they've had high BS levels for extended periods, so when they go lower (and not truly low, just lower than they have been accustomed to) they feel the symptoms of hypo's more. As their bodies adjust to the lower levels, they do not (in many instances) feel those symptoms as much. So it is possible the strips are accurate and your body just doesn't recognize the signs of going low any longer. The next time you go to the doc's office- take the meter with you and run a test at the same time they do and compare results. Good luck. I've used a One Touch Ultra since 2003 and still like it.

The One Touch Ultra is one of the best going. Do you check the meter every time you open a new package of strips?

You don't always show the "usual symptons" when your blood sugars are low. That is one of the largest problems going.

I SWARE BY ACCU CHECK..anyhow...MAKE sure you get enough blood on the strip...all meters will give you a WRONG ....LOW reading if there isn't enough blood on the strip.

GOOD LUCK!
