HIV (Human Immune Deficiency) is a virus that spreads mainly by indulging in unsafe sexual activities. The disease proves to be ultimately fatal and the best way to fight it is to prevent it by practising safe sex. Lack of sex education in our country attributes to the spread of this dreaded disease.

No.
You should counsel them about various aspects eg
-getting their partners also checked for the same,
-reassure them that it is a chronic disease and death does not strike early but only after years of carrying the infection,
-that it does not spread by everyday-contact and they can continue living and working as before,
-that they should maintain good nutrition and hygiene to prevent secondary infections striking them,
-that they should go for regular check-ups to specialised centres
-and above all THERE IS STILL HOPE OF GETTING CURED AS NEW MEDICINES ARE DISCOVERED TO COUNTER THE INFECTION.
Only than can we soothe his ruffled feelings towards society which has made him a victim of, till now an incurable disease (as he perceives it), so that he does not get lost in the milling crowds, out of frustration of non-acceptance and ridicule which he encounters in daily life.
Such a man can turn revengeful against this society and would not bother to strike at its very roots by infecting more and more unknowing people to get even.

Just becuz they're HIV+ doesn't give us the right to look down on people who have it. Everyone who has the disease didn't get it because they were careless or uneducated...

Mothers have passed it to their children via birth or breastmilk. Should we ostracize the innocent children?

Think about the countless men & women who are in comitted relationships and their partners practice unsafe sexual activities and bring it home to their innocent mate! Should the innocent be punished becuz of their husband/wife sleeps around or use drugs?

Today, there are so many ads and campaigns that promote STD/STI prevention...you can't watch tv without a public service announcement reminding you to strap up & get get tested!

The fact of the matter is, when we meet someone who is HIV+, they are already feeling as if they bear the scarlet letter. Who are we to judge them? Not supporting them shows how uneducated we are...ya know?!

How can we help?
1. Support them, care for them, befriend them...they are in need of moral support...They could be the one who saves you, because it is their circumstance that will remind you to be careful and make positive healthy decisions...

2. Stay informed...Educate yourself (I'm mean everyone) of HIV/AIDS Transmission.

3. Get Tested

4. Know your partners & make sure your partner ALWAYS use condoms

5. Don't be afraid to ask potential partners, "whats your status?"...and not refer to single. dating, divorced, married, middle class, bachelors degree, PhD, CEO, BMW or Benz...?

Yes this disease is fatal and its spreading like peanut butter & jelly...We could help by stop playing russian roulette with our lives...becuz 2morrow isn't promised!!

So, by that logic, we should also look down on people with most types of cancer, as many of those are from lifestyle choices. Same goes for heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and most everything you eventually die from.

Life is dangerous, no one gets out alive. We all choose which risks are worth living for. Don't judge someone else unless your life is perfectly clean.

i think judging or demeaning someone with hiv is foul play. they have enough on their plate. however, i cannot believe the problem in the u.s. is lack of information. anyone who has been in school in the last twenty years, by the time they become sexually active, has been exposed to the same lectures, videos, guest speakers, etc, to such an abundance that the awareness could not possibly have eluded them.

It is not the lack of sex education. It is the higher incidence of immorality.
Morals have to be refurbished. That is the education which is needed, not sex education.
Now you decide whether it is necessary to mollycoddle HIV + people.
I don't deny that sometimes it happens due to blood transfusion. This is in the rarest of rare cases. Now every blood bank is bound by mandatory instructions to check for HIV+ or infected blood, which must be strictly enforced. That would be the way.
