Oh. my dear, I have traveled to many countries, eaten many strange things and wonderful ones, lived in China, Germany, and Turkey, as well as the U.S.

I love food of all kinds, but if heaven meets my dreams, it will serve Japanese. The subtly of flavors, the various textures and the beauty of presentation, even in a small country inn, is not duplicated in the great restaurants of Paris, Rome, Istanbul or Hong Kong.

In Japan, even if you are reduced to buying a small container of pickled fish from the Seven-Eleven store, which you will find on every road in Japan, you will have a feast. I have done it many times.

Now second best is a big problem: French or Indian?

Finally, in the best dreams I ever have, I get to taste my Aunt Opal's Southern fried chicken one more time. She lived in Haskell, Texas and died many years ago.

But oh Lord, I'd give anything for another one of her thighs.

This is not a good question to ask. People tend to be either nationalistic in their answers, or respond according to their personal tastes. Being Turkish, I should say Ottoman-Turkish cuisine is excellent. However, beware that I am not using the word "best". Every country, every culture has a rich cuisine with many delicious dishes. What appeals to one may not appeal to other. Therefore, this question has not one right answer.

My brother in law reckons American because it has no culture cuisine of its own so has taken the best cuisine from a wide variety of cultures.

Me and my Sis reckon that Italy and India have the best cuisines - we like the intense flavours of the herbs, garlic and chillis that they use.

With global commerce being what it is, you can get truly excellent food in almost any country. Now if you are asking about the country with the most popular style of food then you probably have to go with the most populous nation (China).

I love Indian food. But my mom cooks a variety of other cuisines. French food is very classy and I don't recommend it much. Chinese food that you get here in the U.S. isn't really Chinese food. The authentic flavors are much better than things you get at restaurants. Same thing with Indian food. Authentic Mexican food tastes MUCH different than what you get at Taco Bell. So basically you would have to try the authentic foods before you decide which one is your favorite!

I would say America. Because it has no ethnic cuisine of it's own it takes the best of all other cuisines and makes it part of it's national identity. It is literally the best of all words. (This is a fancy way of saying I can't decide! I love all food!)

Depends what floats your boat. From a chef's point of view, we are mostly all trained in numerous 'styles' of cooking.
A good restaurant is one that can capture numerous styles and flavours to a high standard, no matter what country it is in.
