I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea just this past fall. I had been complaining about extreme fatigue and heartburn for the past five years and all my doctor would do is order blood work and when that came back normal, he would tell me to "get more sleep". Yeah right!! I finally found another doctor who ordered the sleep test and I found out that I was waking up over 100 times per night. I was put on a CPAP machine w/a humidfier this past December and I havent slept this well in years!! It is very quiet and I have it right next to my bed so I don't have a problem with the length of the hose. It makes about the same amount of noise as a regular humidier would if you were to use it.

If you have Sleep Apnea and leave it go untreated, it can lead to heart attacks/disease, brain damage (from the lack of oxygen), depression, weight gain, migraine headaches, and other symptoms. If you suspect that you have Sleep Apnea, go see your doctor and get a referral to a Sleep Clinic. Good luck!

There are things they can do to help you if this is what you have. Big sign is tiredness during the day. Not being able to stay awake. Loud snoring, falling asleep watching tv, no energy, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of interest in sex, forgetting things, deppression or anxiousness, gaining a lot of weight. These are signs and effects. I have this. They gave me a CPAP machine......... I don't know what the letters stand for. It helps, however it is an awful pain and not at all attractive. So it's like, oh, well, I have my interest in sex back, but who would want to sleep with me looking like this. It is a mask that goes over your nose and sometimes your mouth. It has awful looking thick black straps that go over your head in a couple of places and it is on only a 6 foot tube, so you can't move hardly at all. Also, it makes it impossible to sleep any way but on your back. It looks like a scuba diving mask sort of...............but, it makes a huge noise all night long. I have one. I had to go to a sleep clinic. there, they glued things to your hair, and body. Then they took you to a strange room and they watched you and listened to you all night. They also came in like every 5 minutes and reglued the darn things back on. I swear, I think that every time they saw me fall asleep, they came in. Then, they sent the stuff to the doctor. I don't use my machine very often. I hate it. I suppose if you want a life alone, you might get one, but, to me, the noise is worse that having a snorer right next to you, and if you hear the person snoring, be glad they are there. I have heard nothing bad that will happen to you. I also am sure they are wonderful for some people. So, try it out. I guess..................

I am not certain, but Apnea can get worse. So perhaps you had it in a milder form till now. I have never had problems till a couple years ago after surgery I was told that I had a sleep disorder. It turns out that my shallow breathing wakes me up about 26 times an hour (not all the way, just keeps me out of REM sleep). I'm also a Heroic snorer.

I have sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome. My symtoms were excessive daytime sleepiness, extreme fatigue, and fuzzy brain. I had a sleep study done a couple of years ago and the results were that I had slight sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome coupled with low saturated oxygen levels. The doctor was more concerned with the low oxygen levels and put me on oxygen at night.

I got no better and had a second set of sleep studies done a couple of months ago. This test showed I stopped breathing 17 times in 30 minutes and kicked my legs almost 600 times during my sleep. Needless to say, I was put on a cpap machine and given requip for the rls. My machine is quiet and I have nose pillows rather than the face mask. I can sleep on my side, in fact, I was told to sleep on my side and not my back. I would rather be alive with a gizmo on my face and head than be a pretty corpse.

Sleep apnea causes many conditions and is not to be taken lightly. I know of two people who have died in the last six months because they did not use the cpap machine. I am not trying to scare you but my pulmonologist gave me the lecture on what could happen - death, stroke, heart attack. The brain is so deprived of oxygen that it can't function properly. Small things become major obstacles. Daily life is a struggle.

My advice is to get a sleep study (not as bad as noted) and follow your doctor's recommendations. Life can be so much better after a sleep study.

sleep apnea is where u stop breathing in your sleep. Common signs are snoring and restlessness, very tired thoughout the day as if you havent slept( you wake up when u start breathing again). Go to the doctors for further advice they can run some tests and fit you with equipment/medicine that will help prevent this

Well most people feel tired during the day. But you need to be tested at a sleep clinic. Sleep apnea can cause heart diseases, stroke, or you could even fall to sleep while driving. That's why you should be tested if you are having any problems hope this helped.

Edit

sleep apnea is a disease where you become unable to breathe while you are sleeping. It happens because our throat airways doesnt stay open during our sleep.

if you are affected by sleep apnea, best suggestion for you will be to consult a doctor and use a cpap machine.

Snoring badly and drowsy all day due to lack of proper rest. It is not healthy for your body to not get enough sleep. You are vulnerable to heart attacks. See a doctor and check into the sleep test. The test will tell how bad the apnea is.

if you feel like you were choking, you likely were. Apnea is usually caused by relaxation of the muscles in your throat, tongue, or sinus passages. There is soft tissue that flops or just plain plugs your airway. You cannot will yourself not to relax. You need treatment.
