Pl Consider this while answerin: the question about milk stems from the fact that one of the chemical components in raw milk (cattle) is living white blood cells (apart from mammary-gland cells, various bacteria, and a large number of active enzymes and proteins) (source wikipedia).... so if it's a sort of white blood, is it still veg?

Ofcourse, Mushroom is a vegetable. For God sake it is grown in the soil.

By the way, Non-vegetarian products contain blood.
Although milk is extracted from an animal it does not contain blood in it. But when we drink milk it cetainly helps us to increase the blood count in our body.

Milk is certainly different to meat.

Milk is not meat, even though the cows are tortured. That's why it's sort of considered a veg product, if you're a vegetarian only for health reasons. If you're a vegan, you don't drink milk. If you're an ovo-lactovegetarian then you can drink milk. And yes, a muchroom is considered a vegetarian food.

Just think about it---
mashroom being a wild food having some nutrient values , is considered now a days a civilized diet [ may be used earlier by trible peoples for their survival ], yet it is a wild, trible, natural, veg thing, so called food these days----
And if anyone consider milk as non veg. then just think about a little thing---- a new born can never be considered a non vegetarian for having feed on mother milk. [same way adults feed on mother dairies]

Sorry if someone's already covered this but...

It's a long standing MISunderstanding that the "veg" in vegetarian stands for vegetable. It's actually from the Latin - Vegetus which means lively or vigorous.

Yes, mushrooms are vegetarian.

Perhaps you neeed to look at the defintiion of a vegetarian....

A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products.

Its so simple, don't you think ?

There are moral reasons for not drinking milk, but that a different topic. Going with the definition the world agrees on, mushrooms and milk are suitable for vegetarians.

Mushroom can be considered as vegetarian. It is not from any living animal. You took milk from your mother. It is not non-veg. Same way getting milk from any animal is not non-veg. There is no blood involved in milk. In any item, if you smell blood it may be non-veg.

well milk isnt vegan but it is vegetarian. Mushrooms are not animals so of course it is vegetarian, I think you are asking this because you heard that vegetarians get food from plants or plant based products, well by plants it actually just meant non-animals, i know it is a stupid mistake for them, mushrooms are fungus but are veg.
