I don't have medical insurance so I can't afford to see a doctor. I've had an upper resp virus for 9days now. I was running a fever last week but that's gone, but I still don't feel well. I don't have much chest congestion or even coughing, but I'm thinking it might be sinus related because I have to constantly blow my nose and gunk comes out. My chest doesn't hurt, I'm not out of breath, but I am very weary.
I had a pneumoccocal vaccine 2+yrs ago, so I'm not too concerned about pneumonia.
I continue with the cold medicines but I don't feel a whole lot better than I did a week ago.
What can I do at home to kick this?

You can do nasal irrigation, using inexpensive supplies available over-the-counter from a pharmacy, to help clear your sinuses. This involves running about 1/2 cup of saline water through your sinuses and basically washing the junk out. It looks gross and feels weird, but works really well. It will not help you with a full-blown sinus infection, but if you have a virus, allergies, or an infection that is just getting started, it will make you feel better and give your body a chance to fight things off.

I have had the same problem for quite some time now. I did go to the doctor and he gave me some antibiotics and some other stuff to break up the mucus. You need to get your hands on some sort of antibiotics and get you some municx dm that will help break up the mucus. Also zicam the green label made for severe sinus congestion worked the best for me. Hope this helps and good luck.

It doesn't matter if you have insurance any medical center emergency room has to treat you and send you a bill. It sounds like you have a sinus infection. If the "gunk" as you call it is green, yellow or brown you really need to see a doc and get some antibiotics.

.Just from how you describe the "junk" coming out of your nose leads me to believe you need an antibiotic. Look in the phone book for free or discounted clinics. If you continue to ignore these symptoms and try to treat yourself at home you might end up in an ER and hospitalized and that will cost more than seeing an MD. If there are no discounted clinics most hospitals are required by law to treat folks with out insurance. Please seek help and in the meantime force fluids and feel better.

seems like you may be having the flu. It is the flu season and flus usually last about that long. The only thing you can do when fighting off viruses is to make sure your temperature is controlled via fever reducers like tylenol or advil. other than that, i would suggest finding a free clinic to go visit, there everywhere nowadays with qualified physicians there to help for free.

Go to the durgstore and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Tell him/her your symptoms, tell him what you have been taking, and ask what they recomend for you to take. The pharmacist will tell you if he thinks you need to see a Doc. Pharmacist has authority to give some drugs (you have to sign for them) that may help. My druggist has his own formulas for different things.
