Hi,
I would recommend the book "becoming vegetarian" by Brenda Davis. I personally find it a good book, and contains nutritional information, social relationship advices, recipes and more.
There are also plenty of vegetarian Guides on the net where you can download. I have a blog post on some guides by vegan outreach, HSUS, and tryveg.com - which you can view and download here
http://living-vegan.blogspot.com/2007/01/vegetarian-and-vegan-guides.html
There are plenty of meat alternatives available, I am not sure where u stay. If u stay in Singapore, there are many outlets selling mock meats, and u can check out the vegetarian society of singapore for more info. http://www.vegetarian-society.org/
If u stay elsewhere, like US canada UK Australia, u can try browsing forums such as the vegan forum http://veganforum.com/forums/index.php
Hope it helps, good luck!

Go to the library or the bookshop and get some vegetarian cook books - Meatless Meals or Debra Wasserman is author of Simply Vegan another great book. You will find amazing recipes without meat literally thousands of them also Kurma Dasa was head chef at one of Australia’s most famous Hare Krishna eating houses and his recipe books are highly recommended. He has 100s of variations of meat meals that are vegetarian and they are superb also these web sites below will be of assistance. I am vegetarian and I have not missed meat and apart from the fact I save an animals life I feal healthy and happy.

Pick up a phone book, look under churches, find a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian church, drop by, grab an Adventist woman, and ask her how to start- these people have been vegetarians since the 1800's and they have it down to an art. Good luck!

Start with nutrition books. Pay attention to protein synthesis. That will be one of the biggest hurdles, since humans cannot easily construct the more complex protein chains unless they get a vast variety of molecules with which to work.
When I went vegetarian, I became violently ill. When I gave it up, I became violently ill. The change is substantial, especially since the flora and fauna (primarily bacteria) your body uses to digest food will have to change.
If you exercise regularly with aerobics and weight training, be prepared to be highly tempted to dump a veggie diet. Meat protein, or at least whey protein, cravings can get very intense and make you "back-slide."
Good luck. I know a lot of vegetarians who are happy with it, a lot of vegetarians who are dull and listless, and a whole lot of people who have done everything in the book and ended up just eating what their body tells them to eat.
If you feel vital and healthy and wholesome, do it, and best to both of you. And take notes.

I would not even try to sub meat just avoid it and develop your taste and appetite for fresh vegetables especially raw ones like salads everyday . start in the produce section of your grocery store their are an abundance of vegetables and fruits to plan from but you may have to learn to cook all over again . the food channel has some on line people that have good healthy recipes .also if you are health conscious you may want to cut your processed carbs and go with whole grains . and be sure to hydrate with at least eight glasses of water per day . your beans and tofu will help maintain your protein in lieu of meat fish and poultry.try to limit your fats oils and sugar and your diet should give remarkable health benefits. One nice recipe hint is spaghetti squash alfredo the details are with Alton Brown at food network .com try the low carb and lovin it show with George Stella he has some good ideas .

It will take you sometime to adjust to the new/vegetarian menu, therefore, the best way to start is, try one thing at a time, and quit one thing (meat) at a time, also, balance the nutrition, tofu, bean, broccoli have a lot protien and fiber, they are good for your body.
I found these web address on the answer board, I hope the person who post these vegetarian web address do not minght I copy them.

That's kind of romantic, the concept that two separate human beings can unite as one vegetarian entity <3
Relax, everyone, what's with the thumbs down? Just poking a bit of fun at the title of the question :p
