I am not diabetic but I think this was similar to hypoglycemia. I started to get paranoid, sleepy, dizzy & started to have weird thoughts. Breathing seemed difficult at times.

Finally, I checked my blood sugar. It was 70 on the nose. Are these hypoglycemia symptoms? I know below 70 is hypoglycemia, but who says those numbers are exact? My fingers are very numb, also, just from being outside for about a minute. This was like 30 minutes ago. It is about 43 degrees outside.

Sounds like thyroid problems- sleepy, dizzy, weird thoughts, sensitivity to the cold. Thyroid imbalance can affect all hormones in the body and can be contected to diabetes.

Please check out this website:

And please get checked out by a doctor- one who will keep digging- thyroid problems are sometimes difficult to diagnose but are quite common.

While paranoia is not a symptom of hypoglycemia, the rest of what you describe is. Seventy mg/dl to 120 mg/dl is the average range for suggesting whether or not someone is in a healthy glycemic range. However, the range markers change with regard to considering the following items:
1) Age
2) Other external and internal effects
3) Measurement factors

DIABETES--DEFINITION
Diabetes mellitus is impaired insulin secretion by the pancreas and variable degrees of peripheral insulin resistance leading to hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Early symptoms are related to hyperglycemia and include polydipsia (excessive thirst), polyphagia (excessive hunger and abnormally large intake of solids by mouth), and polyuria (excessive urination). Later complications include vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy, and predisposition to infection. Diagnosis is by measuring plasma glucose (blood sugar). Treatment is diet, exercise, and drugs that reduce glucose levels, including insulin and oral antihyperglycemic drugs. Prognosis varies with degree of glucose control.

Hyperglycemia is high blood glucose. Symptoms are--
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision

Hypoglycemia is low blood glucose. Symptoms are--
Sweating and palpitations (I liken the sweating to water coming out of a sieve!)
Pale skin
Hunger - to the extreme
Trembling
Irritability
Anxiety/aggression
Poor concentration
Feelings of faintness/dizziness
Loss of consciousness
Death

Normal blood glucose ranges from 70-110. Anything below 70...hypo..anything above 110..hyper.
In the US, about 90% of diabetics are type II and 10% are type I.
