I woke up today with a pain in my chest, on my right side just above my breast in the middle of my chest. Ok so its just a sort of sharp pain when I breath or move abit. The pain is not too bad, but it is a discomfort. I have experienced this before quite a few times but today its worse than other times. I have told my doctors about it numerous times, but each has said something different. The last one said use nerofen gel, which I am using but its not helping now. This pain comes on abruptly and randomly, every few months, I do have asthma but I have NO breathing problems, just a sharp pain above my right breast on the left side.

What is this? I looked on the internet and I think it might be Costochondritis, I am not a medical person so its just a guess, What do you think? Should I go to the doctor? Everytime I see them they just say, it will go away, dont worry about it. However I am worried

You either have a displaced rib or have strained one or more of your subcostales muscles (these muscles spread across your ribs diagonally).

It is unlikely that it is costochondritis as that is caused by a virus and causes swelling.

After using the medication nerofon gel and your complain is still there, i suggest you urgently visit the doctor for him to determine you health status because normally asthmatic patient experience chest pain reason for this because of poor respiration difficulty in breathing as well poor blood circulation which can affect vital organs function. Since you has no respiratory complain doesn't rule out the fact you are doing fine because the pain is there like you said every few months abruptly and randomly this is more reason for you to be concern, seeking professional help is the best option and not just opinions on the Internet. On your visit to the physician he or she will be able to determine what causing you discomfort and probably have other clinical procedure down i strongly suggest you seek help professionally and don't be shy or embarrass to ask you doctor questions. IF you are uncomfortable with the doctor then seek another it sure won't hurt, i wish you all the best in getting the appropriate health care you need to be well. bye CMA.

Does your heart seem to flutter or skip beats? If so, this could be what they call a Heart Arrhythmia, which is an irregular beating pattern of the heat, caused by stress, certain meds, or smoking. I have them all the time, its not healthy, but there isnt really anything you can do about it that i know of. You just have to focus on breathing.

It could also be something else, is there any other problems you are dealing with like lower back pains or achiness? If so, consult with your doctor, make sure to tell him/her all your symptoms.

You maybe right about the costochondritis thing. Type in costochondritis symptoms.

Good luck! O and don't stress yourself out too much! This could just be something temporarily.

This sounds like a mild case of pleurisy, have you ever had bronchitis, or pneumonia?, if so you could have a small scar on your lung, when irratated, feels like a sharp chest pain, (like someone poked you in the chest with an icepick), sudden movement can have that reaction. If you look up pleurisy, it will tell you it's , an inflamation of the lungs, but it can also be just random sharp pains, caused by a lung scar, the only way to know for sure, is to have a chest exray. If pain persists, I would do that, although there is really know cure for a scar, they will give you pain meds, and info an how to avoid the attacks.

it could be the costochondritis thing...
i had it several years ago.. if you read about the chronic condition then i am sure you are aware of the symptons and the causes.

keep a journal..what are you doing several days before it comes on??? doing alot of lifting... and such... if the doctors have done the hole 'heart' check then it's probably muscle related.

the only thing that stinks is that it's chronic..so once you get it..it will always be there... you just have to be aware of your doings...
try not to lift heavy things to aggrivate it.

next time you go to the doctor mention the costochondritis and see what they say.

in the mean time motrin works great because it reduces the swelling in the joints that cause they pain and chest pressure.

don't think too much, you'll give yourself a panic attack :)

it might be your gallbladder, your right. Though if you are having pain your doctor telling you it will go away and it doesn't means something might be wrong. You need to go in for a CT of you chest, including your gallbladder. This will at least rule out several things. Pain is your bodies way of telling you "something is wrong, fix me".
