120/80 was regarded as the norm for many years. Now the medical community likes to see B/P slightly lower than that. But your numbers are nothing to be concerned about. Your lower number (diastolic) is fine. Your upper number (systolic) is slightly elevated, and your doctor might consider it to be borderline high, but the systolic number is susceptible to rapid change.

As a healthcare provider I agree with the answer from 'fishtown'. I like my patients to keep a record of thier blood pressure taken at home and bring the record in to me. The one reading I get in the office does not satisfy me to be able to prescribe medication (unless its outlandish). Yes, we like 120/80 OR LESS. Are you on blood pressure meds? Do you have diabetes? A family history of cardiac disease? I have a few more questions which could play into the answer you need......so .....see your healthcare provider. But I think its great you are concerned about the greatest silent killer in our nation. Keep up the good work.

That's fine, you only need to worry if you start getting over 140/90 readings regularly, I should know mine hit 240/160 in '97, I spent a month in hospital and they couldn't believe I survived. They used to call that malignant hypertension because it was always fatal!

Mine is right around there, too. Usually about 128/79. Doctor always says it's good.
