From what I've been reading about Herpes 2, you have breakouts usually recurrent in the place you contracted the virus. Also, it says Herpes 2 usually stays in the genital area. So, if you have oral sex, with someone with herpes 2, will you contract it in the mouth? Will it then go to the genitals, because it says usually you will have a breakout where it is contracted? Also, from what I'm reading herpes 2 will not give someone Herpes 1, but Herpes 1 will give Herpes 2. So, confusing! So, basicully to narrow it down will someone get infected with herpes 2 by giving someone else infected oral sex?

Herpes 1 is on the face, herpes 2 is in the genital area.

Someone with herpes 2 in the genital area can give someone herpes 2 on their face durring oral sex.
And it works vice versa, someone with herpes 1 or 2 on the face can give someone herpes 1 or 2 in the genital area.

So, yes, either can be contracted to either place- but it still remains the same type of herpes and will not relocate.

Anytime either partner has herpes, showing a breakout or not, they can infect their partner. Any contact can cause you to give or contract it.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

You're confused because people are telling you herpes 1 is mouth and herpes 2 is genitals. This is not true. You can get either virus in either place. They are (slightly) different viruses, and one doesn't change into the other.

About half the tests I've done for genital herpes have grown HSV 1, the other half HSV 2. (This is in Australia, and the pattern might be different where you live). I gather that cold sores are more commonly HSV 1 than HSV 2, but you can definitely get HSV 2 as mouth cold sores. The answer to your question is yes.

Anyone who has herpes 1 or 2 is contaigous. That means the person can infect you. If you have oral sex, use protection. Because it can be transmitted through a sore in the mouth. Wait until you are not having an outbreak to have oral sex or sex in general..but ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS..use protection for your mouth and genitals.

I was told you can get either one in either area (microbiology class) , but you've got me thinking now. In any event you can shed without sensing or seeing an outbreak. In addition, Herpes can be fatal if infecting cranial nerves and going into the brain (AIDS).
