Heart is covered by 2 layered pericardium. Fibrous pericardium
forms a sac surrounding the heart and the roots of its great
vessels. It forms a firm chamber for the heart.Serous pericardium
is a closed serous sac which has been invaginated by the developing heart from above and behind, as a result parietal and
visceral layers formed.Visceral layer are adharent to heart and
roots of great vessels. While parietal layer is outside the visceral
layer and in between these 2 layers is the pericardial cavity
which is filled with serous fluid.

This is the pericardium, a double layer of fibrous tissue with serous fluid between the 2 layers. This allows the layers to slide over each other smoothly when the heart expands and contracts as it beats.
