Pescetarian.
It is very common for pescetarians, who eat no read meat but do consume fish, to refer to themselves as vegetarians. This feeds into the common misconception that vegetarians eat fish. The truth is that the very definition of vegetarian is a person who eats no meat, including no fish.
Another common misconception is that pollo-pescetarians, who eat fish and poultry but no meat, are vegetarians. Again, this is not true.
In short, you do not call them a vegetarian. This furthers the inconvenience for vegetarians who must explain over and over that they will not eat fish just because the other "vegetarian" someone knows does.

It's problematic for real vegetarians when non-vegetarians call themselves vegetarian. Fish is not part of the vegetarian lifestyle. I've seen people who have just reduced the amount of red meat they eat call themselves vegetarian. People who eat chicken and call themselves vegetarian.

They do this because it's easier than explaining their particular dietary habits. Why should they have to explain at all? Just say no thank you.

Makes life for me very difficult.

I keep telling this story over and over again. Sooner or later it will get through to people.

Joe has a girl he likes. This girl is a vegetarian. Joe's friends all tell him vegetarians eat fish. Which they don't. Poor Joe is a nice guy. He goes out of his way to cook this lovely girl a nice salmon dinner. A dinner she doesn't eat. She eats bread and butter. Nibbles at what few veggies don't have fish juice all over them. Joe is heart broken and never ask her out again.

See where mis-information leads?

You don't call them a vegetarian at all. vegetarians don't eat fish or any other dead animal. A pescetarian is a person who just eats fish and no other animal but is not any kind of vegetarian.

PS: There is no such thing as a semi-vegetarian. Either you are or you arent.

Sorry man, vegetarianism is the lifestyle of one who does not consume the flesh of dead animals.

In other words, there is no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish, that would be like a Christian who believes in multiple gods and isn't particularly fond of Jesus.

:)

The accepted technical term for a person who abstains from consuming all flesh other than that of fish is *pescetarian*.

Also known as piscitarian, and less aptly pescevegetarian. That last term is not quite correct because a vegetarian by definition eats no flesh. Vegetarians do not eat fish, or chicken. Chicken-eaters are known as *pollotarians*, and those who eat both but no other flesh are known as *pesce-pollotarians*. It is also correct to use the term semi- or demi-vegetarian, but never vegetarian.

If he/she is eating fish then they are not vegetarian. A fish diet is a good one though, except that it has something in it (can't remember the name offhand) which is not good.
