Take care of yourself. Eat right, Exercise, Eating healthy is the key. Limit your sugar intake. And your good to go.

Be healthy is the easiest way! ^__^
There are factors that people can't control though, such as heredity. Oh genetics, very cruel indeed.
If you are diabetic and are looking to avoid having a hypo/hyper-glycemic attack, keep an eye on your blood sugar as best as possible. Wear a medical alert device, and carry at least a juice box with you when you go out, so that if you have an attack, someone will be able to give you sugar.

and remember!!!
*important*
A first Aider cannot give you anything but sugar for a diabetic emergency! *never -EVER- insulin* So if you need insulin, be sure to take it at your scheduled time!
