I was a smoker too. Quitting is the best thing to do after you start having symptoms of quite a few diseases...
I quit cold turkey. It is fairly easy once you know that you're going to go through hell for about 10 days and then be done with it for the rest of your life. You will never want to smoke again because you will remember those 10 days of hell that you will never want to go through again.
Just decide to stop smoking on your next birthday. Just stop...and go though hell, knowing it will last only 2 weeks or less.

Viral pleurisy can last several days to weeks. Most of the time, codeine and ibuprofen are prescribed to help with the pain. You should also make sure you breathe as deeply as possible to help prevent secondary infections like pneumonia. You are not going to like this, but smoking is only adding to the irritation in the lungs. Pleurisy can cause pleural fibrosis and scarring if it isn't resolved properly. You need to cut back on the smokes for a while, or this is going to last longer than it needs to. Good Luck.

Smoking doesn't help or speed the healing process.
If it's been awhile since you were diagnosed, and have completed any medicines that were prescribed, you need to follow up with your physician.

I think you had better settle in for a long haul. Why do you punish yourself with cigarettes? You must be feeling horrible. I hope you get better soon. Good luck.
