I have had a lot of mucus in my trachea since October. It has been sort of on and off, like sometimes it will be so bad that I have to swallow or cough every few seconds to get air into my lungs and other times, it's barely noticeable. Could this be chronic bronchitis?

Hi Cara, It sounds to me like you have allergies. Unless your sputum is dark yellow or green and you have a fever, it is not bronchitis. You can carry a mild 100 or 101 fever with allergies. The reason it comes and goes is your exposure to what is bothering you. For food allergies keep a diary of everything you eat for at least one week and note how you feel each day at the beginning and end of the day. Check to see what you eat over and over, also whatever your favorite foods are (the ones you cannot live without) and that is probably what foods you are allergic to. Over exposure to anything is what causes allergies. You can be slightly allergic to ragweed and not be bothered but then you eat a couple of things you are really allergic to and WHAM--you get symptoms. Clariten is now over-the-counter and can be taken long term. Also, garlic pills boost your immune system more than anything else. Take Ester C (if you take 1,000 milligrams of other C vitamins your body only absorbs 25%) because it is 100% absorbed. Echinacea Root capsules and Astragalus Root capsules are excellent immune boosters. VM-75 by Solgar is a wonderful multiple. If you have problems with weight gain you might want to try the iron free, since iron has a tendency to increase your appetite.

I had a sinus infection for one year that would not clear up. I always used a certain perfume that was expensive and I ran out and because of the price I did not replace it right away. At this time my sinus infection cleared up and I did not think anything about it, until I bought more perfume. I instantly had the sinus infection back. I had heavy drainage, coughing, scratchy throat, etc. I use to think I had a cold or flu all the time until I found out about allergies. The funny thing is I never believed in them. I always thought it was something the doctor told you when he couldn't figure out what was wrong. They just weren't a big deal. Boy, was I wrong. I almost died because of allergies. At one time I had Environmetal Disease, I was allergic to everything I ate, drank or breathed. Thank God that is no longer true. I use to catch everything that came along, but now the whole house can get sick and I don't.

I will put you on my prayer list. God bless!!

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

Sounds to me you have allergies. If you are experiencing a lot of sinus pressure, the mucus you are feeling in your throat could be from your sinuses draining into your throat, which could mean a sinus infection, too.

Are you a smoker? If you are a smoker, you your mucus drainage will be a lot heavier into your throat anyway.

Regardless, it would be in your best interest to go see a doctor...especially if you have had it for this long!

If you've had this since October, have you been to a doc yet? Could be lots of things, but 5 months is a long time to go without being diagnosed!

Yeah...-I'm afraid you're right. I'd check it out with a doctor however. Maybe there's something he can recommend to alleviate the symptoms when they flare up. Good luck.

bronchitis is in your chest and lungs not your throat.... but if it's gone on this long you really need to go to the doctor
