Does Septoplasty work at opening your nose for better breathing?

Or are there alternative/Natural ways to improve nose breathing?

I have had problems breathing through my nose my whole life. many years ago I went to an ear nose and throat doctor and he did this surgery to my nose boring away at the turbinate structure to open the breathing passage. Well he made my very sensitive nose even more so I now many years later I have lost my sense of smell. Presumably to over exposure to the many many dairy's located around the area.
